RSN aircraft successfully fires Harpoon missile

SINGAPORE - A Harpoon missile was successfully fired against a surface target by the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) Maritime Patrol Aircraft during a bilateral exercise with the United States Navy in the South China Sea.

Units from the Republic of Singapore Air Force and United States Marine Corps were also involved in the 19th edition of the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise, which ends on July 26.

Senior Minister of State for Defence Chan Chun Sing, accompanied by Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Ng Chee Peng, was present to witness the live-firing.

Mr Chan, noted that the exercise, which has been conducted annually since 1995, has strengthened the overall defence relationship between Singapore and the US and the level of interoperability between both navies.

The last harpoon firing conducted by the RSN was in 2012 when RSS Formidable successfully carried out the simultaneous live-firing of two Harpoon missiles off Hawaii during the multilateral Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) maritime exercise.

It's probably all computerized and plug and play. A 3-day certified simulator course will do for competency.

MINDEF probably used the cheaper Harpoon model that cost $750k ...smaller change.

Simulator? Alamak, MINDEF has no more space to accommodate simulators ...that's why they do armour training in Germany.
