SingTel has been named as one of the world’s most ethical companies for the third year running by the United States-based think-tank Ethisphere Institute.

SingTel is the only Singaporean company and only one of three telcos in the world to make the list of 145 companies.

Ethisphere Institute is a leading international think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability.

The institute’s World’s Most Ethical (WME) Companies designation recognises companies that do business ethically and translate mere statements into words and practices.

According to Ethisphere’s website, honorees are recognised for not only promoting ethical business standards and practices internally but “exceed legal compliance minimums and shape future industry standards by introducing best practices today”.

SingTel said in a statement today: “This is a significant achievement and recognition of SingTel’s commitment to ethical leadership, compliance practices and corporate social responsibility.”

This year’s WME list included a record 145 companies from over three dozen industries, from aerospace to wind power. Since the list’s inception, 23 companies have made the list all six years — they include Aflac, American Express, General Electric, Milliken & Company, Patagonia, Rabobank and Starbucks.
