Last month's fire at a SingTel's Bukit Panjang Internet exchange which crippled critical services across Singapore was caused by an employee who did not follow strict maintenance procedures, including the use of an unauthorised blowtorch.

SingTel said this in a statement on Wednesday adding that it had completed preliminary investigations into the Oct 9 incident which occured during maintenance work at one of the lead-in pipes located in the cable chamber.

The fire, which took down banking, payment and Internet services, was localised in one of three pipes that houses cables connecting to customer homes and business premises.

The blaze damaged 149 fibre optic cables, two-thirds of which belong to national fibre broadband network builder OpenNet.

Sinkies don't use blow torches. Probably an exalted FT. His nationality will be kept secret to protect the guilty.

"Employee" is a Sinkee or PR or FT? Full time staff or contractors or sub contractors? And what about GUESS THE RACE?

Anyone want to open plate?

Hello Singtel, this fire is cause by a Singtel employee, so stop shifting the blame and admit fault.

why dont report the name age and race of this employee?

they are still trying to 'hide' something

or this 'employee' is a 3 yr old minor which the name should be withheld to protect the child

Must be one, Muthusamy Jackson from Pondicherry, or Augistino Santos from Neva Ecija, or Bindadong from Mandalay ( latest pet) or even Teh Ta Let from Yong Peng... if this was a certified, true blue SINgaporean...you bet your $$$, it will be named ASAP...

Anyone know where one can buy a blow torch:confused:

Is that the same place where you can find the plastic ties:D

don't anihow bullshit la, Sinkieland where got unauthorised things wan

Copper wires are often melted by using propane blow torches at the cut ends to prevent fraying and ease assembly thru trunking holes etc. Blowtorches are also used to heat seal plastic tubing to protect electrical insulation or to bind several cores together. I will be surprised management - at least at the supervisory level - does not know this, and that inevitably, they will be used. So really shameful to detach themsleves from blame when trouble occurs. Another example of cowardly Singtel mgmt Sinkie behaviour. Not standing behind your men.

The layout of the ducts etc...must be a disaster waiting to happen, like many of the so-called world standard designs of whatever infrastructures, the BLOW TORCH is an excuse for their incompetence, as usual, "taichi' the blame. To cause a fire like that, must be using an oxytane torch, hope I got this right.. for welding!!. A small blow torch to start a fire that big..there must be a build up of gasses in the tunnels or ducts!!

They are now covering their "Torches" being blown....

Yeah named and plus highlight nationality is Singaporean, but when other nationalities commit same act will not mention their nationality at all...

that mean they know they are quilty of bringing in too many fake 'skilled' FT workers
so they scared if report that it is a FT (again)
PAP ministers have to hide left and right from angry peasants

CB
that means the know lah
still want to act like a deaf frog

When they're less than forthcoming with the nationality, you know he is a foreigner.

Sometimes silence reveals more than words.

Most likely a directive from above to quell 'xenophobia'.
