Three local businesswomen have made it to the latest Financial Times (FT) list of the world's top 50 women in business.
They are SingTel group CEO Chua Sock Koong, Hyflux founder Olivia Lum and Temasek Holdings chief executive Ho Ching. All are no strangers to the list, having also made the cut last year.
Ms Chua, 54, is again the highest-ranked Singaporean on the list at No. 19, up from 23rd position last year. She is one of the few women in the world to head a large telecoms group, the FT report notes. SingTel is the largest listed company on the Singapore Exchange by market capitalisation.
Hyflux's Ms Lum, 50, is at No. 35, up from 44th last year. FT notes that she won the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year award this year - the first woman to do so in the award's 11-year history.
Temasek's Ms Ho, 58, who was ranked No. 25 last year, takes the 42nd spot this year.
The report said that Temasek has 'significantly increased its asset base' under her leadership, and that rumours of Ms Ho's retirement are 'greatly exaggerated'.
The top position this year goes to Kraft Foods CEO Irene Rosenfeld, who in August made the bold move of splitting the company into two separate entities. The decision was made just after Kraft's controversial £11.7 billion (S$24 billion) acquisition of British chocolate maker Cadbury last year. Ms Rosenfeld, 58, displaces last year's top businesswoman, Pepsico CEO Indra Nooyi, 56, who takes third place this year.
Second place goes to Ms Guler Sabanci, 56, CEO of Turkish financial services firm Sabanci Holdings.
The FT report notes that many of the top female CEOs remain concentrated in North America, but China and India account for a fifth of the women featured. These include 57-year-old Dong Mingzhu, CEO of Gree Electric Appliances, China's largest air-conditioner maker.
