Cycling and the use of personal mobility devices (PMDs) are an "essential part" of Singapore's quest to go car-lite, said Senior Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo in Parliament on Tuesday (Jan 10).

During the second reading of the Active Mobility Bill, Mrs Teo said cycling and the use of PMDs were gaining popularity with Singaporeans young and old. "They are essential to Singapore's transition to car-lite mobility, centred on public transport," she added.

You wouldn't be cycling 15-20km to work or rent a bicycle from MRT station to reach your workplace and get yourself messy. We used to empower lower-income shipyard workers or lower-ranked soldiers to buy a motorbike to reach their ulu workplace and work OT, but a decent one cost $15K these days. We will not expect young parents to have 3 kids going around cycling for every sunday's family outing.

Owning a car is like having freedom of travel without tracking or time-limitation.
There is nothing wrong with it. The issue that we are not overpopulated.
