Very shameful

Singaporeans tax payers happily pay ministers billions of salary and these ministers in turn demand petty hawkers to provide free and budget meals to the poor and clearly stated their demand in hawker tenancy agreements

Why should we bear the burden of budget meals and app discounts, some hawkers ask

SINGAPORE – When Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre’s management announced it would scrap clauses requiring hawkers to provide free meals for the needy at their own cost, the update was met with relief by hawkers. But many question why they continue to be called upon to provide budget meals and discounts to diners who pay using operator apps.
The Pay-it-Forward initiative by Canopy Hawkers Group, which manages the Socially-conscious Enterprise Hawker Centre (SEHC), initially required stallholders to contribute 100 free meals over three years.
It was criticised by veteran food critic K.F. Seetoh in an Aug 8 Facebook post that described it as “forced charity”. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung – who oversees the ward where the hawker centre is located – waded into the debate on Aug 11, writing on Facebook that hawkers did not face penalties if they did not provide the meals.

However, copies of the contract shown to the media, including The Straits Times, indicated that hawkers could chalk up demerit points for failing to provide the meals. The management team later said on Aug 15 that it would not enforce the obligation in the future.
“Some stalls are not doing well, so it’s better not to force them,” says John (not his real name), a hawker in his 50s, who runs one of the 44 stalls there. Like many of the tenants ST spoke to, he declined to reveal his name for fear of repercussions from his operator.
Another hawker, who is also in his 50s, adds: “Doing charity is voluntary, not by force.”

Certain govts and their actions mirror the tactics, structures and motivations of organised crime. The Mafia seek to establish a monopoly on force and coercion, through the use of violence, threats and intimidation to control territory, enforce their rules and eliminate rivals. In a sense, they are an "alternate govt" that operates outside the official legal framework. When an authoritarian govt uses its monopoly on force not for the public good, but for its own enrichment or to suppress dissent, it behaves much like the Mafia.

Sinkies are disgusting.
The 65% of voters did this at the GE

You think that’s shameful? Wait till u see them go on national tv and tell the whole world that they are jobless in their 30s!

No wonder whenever I order budget meals from my neighborhood Cai Png stall, the chiobu at the stall gave me that "我的大姨媽來" look. I thought she was disappointed that I didn't look like @sbfuncle John Lone, but now I know it's OYK's fault for making me appear cheapskate.

Government should subsidize every budget meal - every $3.50 paid to the stall for a budget meal, government should pay a $1.50 bonus to the stall. If a stall manages to hit a quota of 69 budget meals a day, the government will deduct $69 from the rent each day.

In the meantime, I keep meeting clients who have foreign mid-managers and executives in business development, marketing and other PME roles that S'poreans are more than qualified to hold. This is economic genocide committed by the SG govt!

but sinkies can accept million dollars salary despicable minister
Unfortunately, the 65% bought the reason that PAP ministers who spew motherhood statements are "world class talents" which we know they are not! Our leaders were outsmarted at the negotiation table by their CECA counterparts!

Do you have CECAs under your wings ?

Country in budget surplus, Temasek/GIC always reports billions of profits. the senior people in Govt all get paid very well

but to support a social cause, the hawker has to provide free meals and pay rental for space. these costs will pass down to the residents of Sembawang, the people end up paying for all these...

If OYK is so concerned about it, why not contribute $1m a year from his salary to fund all these initiatives? ok la ok la, I be nice to him, start with $500k for the 1st year

Budget meals should only be offered to Blue CHAS elite, and surpluses collected from GST should be used to subsidize this elite group in Singapore. Like I said, the Blue CHAS can pay $3.50 for a meal, and Government will subsidize the stall $1.50.

Limiting the budget meals to Blue CHAS will prevent stalls from being exploited by customers who do not necessarily need budget meals. The stallholders do not have the means to determine who needs budget meals and who doesn't. By limiting budget meals to Blue CHAS, the Government will do the due diligence for the stallholders.

This is a positive step forward to prepare Singapore to become a 躺平 nation.

@sbfuncle and @Boonsiong KYM ?

Although a good suggestion, but maybe we will becum busier, as other people without blue Chas will ask us to buy for them de woh.
So on top of that, there need to be a system to check a max amt meal we can buy per day.

“Doing charity is voluntary, not by force.”

Similarly, voting for the pappies is voluntary, not by force. So these fucktard hawkers should just suck it up and bend down for their masters.

You don't pay the robbers. The robbers take from you. You have no choice or say in the matter.

Daft Sinkies need to learn the difference.
