From Tuesday (Aug 10), people who are fully vaccinated — meaning two weeks have passed since their second dose of a vaccine — may dine out at restaurants and gather in groups of up to five, or take part in other higher-risk social activities such as sports or mass events.

Not so for accounts manager Siti Hamzah, 26, who said: “I’m sad that I’m singled out. I feel like there should be exceptions for people who did try (to get vaccinated). I mean, it’s just a small group of us that had adverse effects.”

Ms Siti, who received her first shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on July 28, suffered from high fever for six days and had vomiting and diarrhoea.

She was warded, discovered to have inflammation and had to spend S$7,000 on hospital bills. A doctor later certified her unfit for her second dose.

Because of this, she is waiting for other vaccines that do not use the new messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) technology, such as the Novavax vaccine, to be available here.

She is not inclined to get the Sinovac vaccine due to its low efficacy rate, though the Government has said that those who experienced an allergic reaction after receiving their first dose of the mRNA vaccines can be considered fully vaccinated after they get two shots of Sinovac.

When it comes to gathering with family and friends for meals, Ms Siti and others who are not vaccinated are feeling left out.

Even at hawker centres and coffee shops, regardless of whether a person is vaccinated or not, only up to two people may eat out.

To abide by the regulations, businesses may check their customers’ vaccination status by asking them to tap their TraceTogether mobile application or token against the SafeEntry (Business) app on the premises.

just wanted to chime in as someone who was denied the 2nd vax as i had hives within the first 7 days.. it feels like an extended lockdown when you see all your friends having fun outside. although a negative pre-event test can substitute for non-vaxxed/partially vaxxed folk, it's not financially viable to spend that kind of money just to eat out at restaurants or enjoy other activities.
i did try to see a specialist with hopes that they could certify me for the 2nd dose but they didn't want to take the risk as it was against MOH guidelines. i was only recently contacted by MOH to get Sinovac done at a public hospital but i haven't heard anything from them yet. if i do explore this, it's probably going to take 5-6 weeks to be considered fully vaxxed, given that there is a 3 week interval between doses and 2 week wait after the 2nd dose.
at this point, it really sucks because i can and want to take the 2nd dose but i've been banned from doing so. currently, the only option for people like me is Sinovac, as explained above. from what i know, the higher-efficacy vaccines like Sinopharm isn't here yet, and neither is Novavax, which we were told would be here by the end of the year. like, i just wanna enjoy life yanoe, i never imagined that i would get myself caught in this circus. if i had known that things would be like this now, i wouldn't have revealed that i had a reaction within the first 7 days of my 1st dose, even if it was really mild. anw thanks for reading guys.

Not sure what's the problem with people like Siti here. She could just get Sinovac even if she sincerely believes the efficacy rate is too low for her liking, just treat it as spending $20 to buy a vaccination cert. Not like her going around with 0% efficacy unvaccinated is any better.

What's the point of moaning and groaning non-stop hoping for government to change policy when there's a ready solution at hand? The government isn't going to introduce new non-MRNA vaccines into the national program just because of a few stubborn donkeys like her insist on some personal fancy theory. Soon the world will also move on with vaccine passports and she can forget about leaving Singapore as well, let's see how long her whining can last.

Tell me one clinic which has supplies of Sinovac now-don't tell me MOH is not aware when they announced that Sinovac will be accepted

I have the vaccine and come with the injection needle. Guarantee no allergy.

Malays prefer to die rather than have chinese vaccine inserted into them.

Singaporeans, pls do not fall for such ruse to make you go and take the vaccine. The govt should be stop and thrown out of their office as this is against human rights.

Why can't they have a system that allows physicians to "certify" patients with vaccine passport if they have medical reasons why they cannot take the vaccine?

Not fair to discriminate those that even dr will say please dont take vaccine.

Where are the drs?

Oh yeah all chicken shit scared like hell dont dare say anything lah.
