Singapore - Not in Top 10 Best Shopping List by CNN Travel

2 major reasons: Pricing and Sim Lim Square

This is only a surprise for the frog-in-a-well Sinkies who hardly travel and believe everything good they hear from the mainstream media about this island.

Not just pricing and Sim Lim Sq.

1) Sales personnel here lack product knowledge.

2) They get impatient when asked more questions.

3) Pretend not to notice you and keep a distance when your body language clearly shows you need their help.

4) Most shops don't have their unit nbr shown making your search for a particular shop unit in a big mall difficult.

and much more .. But who cares. I just shop only when really necessary here. Shopping trips abroad is more fun and satisfying. Here you only get fed up with the way the sales people behave anyway.

Well said.

Agreed that shopping overseas is more enjoyable.
London - yes, definitely. LV, Gucci you name any major brands... They are very cheap there.
Taiwan - yes, ask NS men if you don't know why!
Hong Kong - yes, Hongkies attitude changed since 1997.
Bangkok - good for non-branded items. Lots of variety. Clothes, shoes, foods, girls?

Here in S'pore...
Everything is UP except service attitude and the basic salary.
But, how can we expect good when they are paid peanuts.

Over to you all, brothers.

Sales service is overrated. As long as i get what i am after for a reasonable price i'm happy. I don't go into a shop looking for people to serve me.

As per our standards, it could be wrong.
The surveyor may not be credible, or not be accredited.

Nope, they listed their criteria:

Then we judged cities in four areas, using a one-to-10 scoring scale for each category:

1. Getting around: Quality of public transportation, affordability and availability of cabs.

2. Value: Bargain opportunities, such as sale seasons and average prices.

3. Variety: Number of available brands, range of shopping categories, quantity of upscale shops, department stores, boutique and vintage retailers and market stalls.

4. Experience: City beauty, quality of window displays and shop décor, friendliness and competence of clerks and service staff, dining and accommodation options.

I agree SG will get low score in the above categories....

... Wow!
Singapore is not in the top 10 list???
Incredible...

o no! ...

dat 154th wun carry tis ... sinkies wun get 2 read tis ... wat a waste 4 shopaholic sinkies ...

Sim Lim is a joke. Zero customer service and high probability of getting ripped off (even if you're a local).
One plus though is that if you're looking to build your own computer specs, they sell thousands of gadgets, components and motherboards.

SLS is okay if you avoid the lower levels and know what you're going to buy (usually, computer parts).

Song Brothers has a branch in Funan, so it is not guaranteed that you'll have a better shopping experience in Funan as compared to SLS.

Another shitlisted retail zone is the lower level of Lucky Plaza, with shops selling electronic goods. Seriously, don't be daft and buy stuff from there. I'd rather you go eat at Jollibee's. ;)

Shopping here in this particular tread is not about walking into 711 to pick up a loaf of bread. If you know where I am coming from.

Ok, maybe i should clarify: I don't go into a shop looking for people to serve me like a king.

hi there

1. aiyoh!
2. sheepishland is simply no match to hk hoh.
3. sales service, diversity & quantity etc.

Even KL made it to the list along with HongKong. Reading the comment they were talking about how bad the shopping experience is in Singapore.
