Doctor jailed for molesting 4 women at Marina Bay Sands rooftop infinity pool
SINGAPORE - While on holiday in Singapore, an Indian doctor molested four women in the rooftop infinity pool on the 57th storey of Marina Bay Sands.
Jagdeep Singh Arora, 46, was jailed for two weeks on Thursday (July 12) after pleading guilty to two counts of molestation. Two other charges for similar offences were considered during sentencing.
Singh's wife was with him when he touched two of the victims, but court papers did not mention if she saw him committing the offences. It is not known if she was with him when he molested the other two victims.
The court heard that at around 9pm on June 28, a 25-year-old tourist from Lithuania was in the pool when she noticed Singh, who was with his wife.
He moved very close behind the bikini-clad Lithuanian and she felt his hand brushing against her buttock. She turned to look at him and saw his hand in the water touching her.
The woman elbowed Singh before telling her husband about the incident.
Another woman then came forward to tell the Lithuanian that Singh had molested her as well. The women then alerted security officers, the court heard.
Thirty minutes later, Singh molested a 20-year-old Korean woman who was also wearing a bikini. She was in the pool when he touched her stomach.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mark Yeo said: "She was in a state of shock and did not know how to react. The accused then retracted his hand and walked away."
But he returned minutes later and molested the Korean woman again. He also molested her friend who was nearby.
The Korean and her friend also told security officers about their ordeal and the police were alerted.
Officers arrested Singh at the scene and he later admitted to molesting four women in the pool.
For each count of molestation, he could have been jailed for up to two years and fined or caned.

A man suspected of molesting six underage girls at the Hougang Swimming Complex was charged for one of the offences on Wednesday (26 September).
Job Mathew Panakkal, a 36-year-old Indian national, was slapped with one count of outraging the modesty of a person under the age of 14. He had allegedly stretched out his hand and touched the right thigh of a 13-year-old girl while swimming past her at 7.33pm on 12 September.
The police had earlier said that Panakkal was arrested along Hougang Avenue 2 on Monday over the alleged incidents, which took place on 12 September. The six victims are aged nine to 13.
If convicted of molesting a person under the age of 14, Panakkal could be sentenced to up to five years’ jail along with a fine, caning or both.

Indian national jailed for molesting sleeping woman on Singapore Airlines flight
While asleep on a window seat on board a Singapore Airlines flight, a woman awoke to a sensation of someone pressing her breast.
She saw the hand of the man beside her on her breast.
The man, 23-year-old Ravichandran Vignesh, admitted he pressed on the woman’s breast while she was sleeping as he was “drunk and high and tempted” to do so, court documents showed.
At the State Courts on Thursday (18 October), the Indian national, who pleaded guilty to one count of molest, was sentenced to jail for six months.
Ravichandran and the 31-year-old woman were on a flight from Bengaluru, India bound for Bali, Indonesia with a transit stop in Singapore. It was the first time Ravichandran, who owns a pet shop in India, was taking a flight.
On 1 October this year, at about 1am, the woman had boarded the Singapore Airlines flight and sat at her allocated window seat. Ravichandran took his allocated seat next to the woman.
During the flight, the woman had her meal at about 3.30am Singapore time before falling asleep after covering herself with a blanket.
At about 4.00am, the woman felt someone touching and pressing her right breast. She immediately woke up and saw Ravinchandran’s hand on her right breast. Shocked and outraged, the woman shouted at Ravinchandran, who removed his hand and pretended to sleep.
The woman requested for a change of seats, and the cabin crew moved her to an empty seat at the back.
The woman later sent feedback via SIA’s online form detailing the incident. She also sent an email to the Deputy Commander of the Airport Police Division.
She lodged police report at about 10.58am the next day with the Airport Police Division.
Police managed to trace Ravichandran and arrested him upon his transit through Singapore from Bali on 4 October.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Amanda Han said that Ravichandran had committed the offence at a confined space where the victim had nowhere to escape to. He had also used some force, she added.
The DPP urged for a jail sentence of six months.
In mitigation, Ravichandran, who was unrepresented, said through an interpreter that it was his first time taking a flight and that he had toured Bali.
“I do not know the laws of Singapore. I have not done this back home in India before,” Ravichandran said on Thursday, adding that he came from a poor family in India.
“I will not touch any woman again. I will not travel overseas again. I will not come back to Singapore again,” said Ravichandran, who pleaded to return to India and promised not to reoffend.
For molest, Ravichandran could have been jailed up to two years, fined or caned, or with caning, or with any combination of the punishments.

Engineer jailed for molesting girl on roller coaster
SINGAPORE - While riding on a roller coaster, he repeatedly molested a 12-year-old girl sitting beside him.
Engineer Rohit Kumar Joshi, 28, was jailed for nine months on Tuesday (Feb 28) after pleading guilty to outrage of modesty.
The girl and two friends went to Sentosa on Oct 19, 2015 and boarded the Revenge of the Mummy Ride at Universal Studios Singapore (USS) at around 3pm.
Rohit, who is an Indian national, sat beside the girl and stroked her outer right thigh while the ride was operating.
Assuming it was an accident, she ignored his touches at first as the ride was moving at a high speed.
Undeterred, Rohit started stroking her right arm.
She nudged his hand away but instead of stopping, he touched her right breast.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Taufiq Suraidi said: "The victim then crossed both her arms across her chest to prevent him from touching her again.
"The accused did not touch the victim again until the ride came to a stop."
The girl told one of her friends about her ordeal and they alerted a USS staff member.
The police were then notified at 5.10pm.
For outrage of modesty, Rohit could have been jailed for up to five years, fined, caned or receive a combined punishment.

IT manager gets nine weeks for molesting woman on MRT train
SINGAPORE - An IT manager repeatedly pressed himself against the buttocks of a woman on a crowded MRT train in March this year.
On Thursday (July 20), 46-year-old Rajagopala Soundararaja Panneer Selvan was sentenced to nine weeks' jail after he admitted to molesting the 28-year-old woman.
The Indian national did it while travelling on the East-West Line between 8.45am and 9.15am on March 16.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Ng Yiwen told the court that as was the victim's usual practice, she boarded the second last cabin of the train at Kembangan MRT station that day.
While the train was travelling between Paya Lebar and Aljunied station, she felt something hard pressing against her buttocks, said DPP Ng.
She assumed that someone had accidentally knocked into her and so moved away.
Shortly after, the same thing happened again. This time, she turned around and saw a male Indian standing behind her. She later identified him as Rajagopala.
The victim decided to give him some space and moved away again.
But she noticed that he continued to follow her, and she again felt something hard pressing against her buttocks.
She turned around and saw him pressing against her and felt that her modesty had been outraged. She stared at him, but he ignored her.
DPP Ng said the victim then used her laptop bag to cover her buttocks as she was afraid that he would persist with his actions.
When the train arrived at City Hall MRT station, he alighted and moved to the opposite platform.
The victim continued on her journey to Tanjong Pagar. She made a police report that evening as she wanted to stop Rajagopala from molesting other women.
Police tracked him down and Rajagopala was arrested on April 18. He admitted to the offence.
A second charge of touching a woman on the buttocks inside an MRT train in January was taken into consideration.
In his mitigation plea, lawyer Ravinderpal Singh said his client realised his actions were wrong and had caused emotional and psychological harm to the victims involved.
He said his client suffers from a sleep disorder that affects the amount of rest he gets and his ability to focus at work. This had caused him considerable stress from time to time.
DPP Ng had asked for at least six weeks' jail, saying the offence was committed on a public transport on a commuter. A deterrent sentence was necessary to discourage would-be offenders from committing such offences, he said.
District Judge Samuel Chua backdated the accused's sentence to July 13. The maximum penalty is two years' jail, a fine and caning.

Over a period of six days, a restaurant executive molested two teenage boys and used criminal force on a younger boy, using a ruse to ask for their help.
Mohan Maheswaran, 27, an Indian national, pleaded guilty yesterday to three charges: two for outraging the modesty of two 16-year-olds and a third for grabbing the arm of a 13-year-old. He was sentenced to eight months' jail, backdated to June 30.
Investigations showed that the first victim, aged 16, was waiting to have his hair cut at a shop in Clementi Avenue 3 when Mohan asked for his help to carry some things down some stairs.
The boy agreed and accompanied Mohan, who tried to strike up a conversation with him.
At the staircase landing of the third floor, the boy asked where the things were. Mohan said: "There's nothing. I just want to play with you." When the boy asked what sort of play, Mohan reached out and molested him.
The boy pushed him away and ran down to the hair salon. Afterwards, he left to find Mohan standing outside, looking at him and smiling. The boy, who was with his siblings, reported the matter to his father.
In the second case, the 16-year-old victim was on his way to school on June 26 when he stopped to use a public toilet in Commonwealth Avenue West.
As he was about to leave, Mohan approached him and made an indecent proposition. The boy turned away from him and went to wash his hands, at which point Mohan molested him.
Later that night, the third victim, 13, was walking towards a block near Clementi Mall when Mohan approached him and again asked for help with carrying some things.
The boy went with him up a staircase. At the landing between the first and second floors, Mohan stopped and looked around. When the boy wanted to leave, Mohan noticed he was afraid. Mohan grabbed the boy's left arm and told him not to be scared.
The boy shoved his hand away. Mohan then offered to perform a sexual act on the boy, who pushed him again and fled. The boy subsequently reported the matter.
Mohan, who came to Singapore to work in March last year, could have been jailed for up to two years, fined, caned, or received any combined sentence for each charge of molestation.
For using criminal force, the maximum penalty is three months' jail and a $1,500 fine.
