I remember watching an episode from Monsters Inside Me about some guy accidentally ingested a grill brush wire after having a family BBQ. It was a nightmare scenario, it perforated his guts and had a severe infection and sepsis and had to undergo several surgeries. Somehow the guy managed to survived but comes at a cost by having to live with a colostomy bag for the rest of his life.

I used to work in a kitchen franchise and we were prohibited from using grill brushes after one of them ended up in someone's burger. After that we used a solid piece of metal called a scraper. It was implemented in all 1000+ establishments
