Singapore Malays Celebrate 2 good news in one week!!

Singapore Malays cannot recall a more auspicious week since the PAP came to power nearly 52 years ago. A festive feel enveloped the community when the PM announced that he has asked the People Association to spend time and resources to help the Indian community to integrate. Within days, MOE announced that Nan Chiau High will become the 11th SAP school where students go thru their formative years confined to their own race some of whom are not even citizens of the country. The first in 12 years.

Malay MPs in PAP were particularly overwhelmed and overjoyed by the twin announcements. Many within and outside the community had passed derogatory remarks about them and these men and women have proven to be made of steel. The words "thick hide" does no justice.

To celebrate the surprise week, MUIS and Mendaki will sponsor a Rajaratnam week where the Singapore Pledge will continuously be recited by students from all walks of life. NMP Viswa Sadasivam who continues to collect his NMP allowance after tucking his tail firmly between his legs will be the guest of honour.

I don't really get the drift?, unless you are saying that, the future Chinese new citizens will say the pledge in Mandarin & the Indians, in Hindi or Tamil, maybe I am able to connect the dots.

The Malay Community according to "Hard Truths" Octogenarian, unable to assimilate with the rest of the Singapore society, never had the same treatment now given to Indians. Indians who were not born in Singapore but came here seeking fresh opportunities for themselves and their families. It shows how much the MIW cares about these Indians. In doing so, they relegate the Malays further down their list of priorities, in effect, a telling sign that shows how little they care.

Both are highly sensitive to locals. Note the comments in this and other forums when PM spoke about PA helping the newly arrived Indians to integrate. The SAP school is not to handle just the local demand but for newly arrived PRCs.

More telling however is that the recent GE results does indicate that it is worth investing in these chaps than locals. For the Malay community, it is a clear sign that they are impotent and not important. Either they are solidly behind the PAP or their voting influence is diluted via the HDB race quota system or both. It is however clear that the Malay PAP MPs have no influence within their party.

SAP schools system is no ordinary issue. It is the single biggest political issue in the country. Imagine in a cosmopolitan country, one race enjoys extraordinary support, funds and special curriculum and in the process does not interact with other races. The teachers are also part of the powerful Chinese Teachers Union and a faction of the PAP.

Sengkang is overflowing with Indians. Ii appears Sengkang is excluded from HDB’s Ethnic Integration Policy to accommodate PM's call to integrate foreign born (non-NS served) Indians into Singapore. Or am I wrong?

Those who do not know the significance of the timing of these 2 media releases, here is the answer. It means that the PAP have completed their post elections analysis of votes cast right down to the precinct level. It will be interesting to see what other policies will be rolled out.

One interesting area that pundits are watching keenly is the press. Whether press will have it's muzzle loosened.
