Despite its status as the most expensive city in the world for the second year in a row, Singapore has been ranked the top Asian city for quality of living, according to the Mercer 2015 Quality of Living rankings.

Globally, the city-state is in 25th spot out of 230 cities covered on the list.

In Asia, Tokyo placed second, but was in 44th position overall. Other key cities in the region include Hong Kong (70), Seoul (72), Taipei (83), Shanghai (101), and Beijing (118).

Behind Singapore, the second highest-ranking city in Southeast Asia was Kuala Lumpur (84), Bangkok (117), Manila (136), and Jakarta (140).

Mario Ferraro, Global Mobility Leader for Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) at Mercer said: “The survey results show that Asia-Pacific is a hugely diverse and dynamic region.

“Within the same region there are some stark differences in quality of living, which organisations should take into account when deploying expatriates across borders.”

Meanwhile, Vienna offers the world’s best quality of living, while Baghdad was the lowest-ranking global city.

Mercer conducts this annual survey to help multinational companies and other employers compensate employees fairly when placing them on international assignments.

Data for this year’s report was analysed between September and November 2014 and takes into account political, economic and environmental developments.

Yet more proof of what a fantastic job the PAP has done for the country.

Without the PAP, Singapore would end up being as bad as Baghdad.

this is ranking for expat or for local

The ranking is for anyone who with an enterprising spirit, a positive outlook towards life and a good work ethic.

The Mercer rankings, for which Singapore has been ranked top Asian city, is a measure for expatriate satisfaction only.
It's irrelevant for locals and PRs.

Obviously untrue.

life quality in PRC is better as long as your cash is high quantity.
