The Director of Singapore’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau refuted an allegation that his country is a refuge for perpetrators of graft, or for their ill gotten gains.

“Singapore is not a safe haven for fugitives, or for dirty money,” said Eric Tan Chong Sian on the sidelines of the 8th international workshop of the Southeast Asia Parties Against Corruption (Seapac) in Yogayakarta on Tuesday. “We have laws against this.”

Some of Indonesia’s most famous graft convicts, such as Gayus Halomoan Tambunan and Muhammad Nazaruddin, have allegedly deposited money in Singapore banks. Because the two countries don’t have a working extradition agreement, it is difficult for Indonesia to establish a paper trail.

The Director of CPIB noted that in 2007, Singapore and Indonesia began to establish an extradition agreement, but that it was ultimately turned down by House Commission I.

“Extradition [will be] possible when the Indonesian parliament ratifies this agreement,” Eric said, adding that he would make every effort to help return government assets to Indonesia.

“In Singapore, we confiscate or forfeit the proceeds of corruption,” he said. “So we work very closely with the KPK and other law enforcement agencies to go after corrupt [assets].”

Eric said that the Indonesian government should go through the appropriate legal procedures to seize ............ DUN BE LAZY, CLICK LINK TO CONTINUE READING

Talk through his a**.

Don't say money that is difficult to trace if no collaboration between countries. Remember MSK's (the limp that limped across the window, limped along the roof of a building and then limped to the sea and swam across to JB) escape?

What did they found in the forest ? Many illegal immigrants living in the forest and having a great time with mattress in make-shift huts with pros! Right under their noses and they did not know these ppl are there!

I read somewhere in this forum by our experts that that The Director of Singapore’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau Eric Tan Chong Sian is a honourable man,the recent public events confirm to me that he is NOT.

we welcome these people to simulate the economic, who care where their money come from, as long as it is spend in singapore, singapore benefit. indonesia is an terrorist state, the more corrupt officials there, mean less money for terrorism, safer for us.

These corrupt Indonesian businessmen, mainly of Chinese ethnicity do not support the Muslim terrorists. The money they launder in Singapore is for themselves and their families and for on-going investments/ businesses. The terrorists in Indonesia get their funding from the Al Queida or Middle-East countries to make bombs, to bribe the police and government officials, to sway the muslim clerics to their side and for other terror activities in Indonesia. No money from these corrupt Indonesian businessmen or officials go to funding these muslim terrorists.

Mr Eric Tan was / is with ISD and was one of Francis Seow's more enthusiastic interrogators when the latter was detained under Ops Spectrum. If ever a real commission of inquiry is opened on this matter, Mr Tan will be in danger of losing his job.

He was a young man then. FS wasn't that impressed with him. Now Dir CPIB. From ISD, to ICA , then CNB. He will not lose his job. Solidly entrenched.

Ah, but Sinkieland is a safe haven for Mugabe, North Korea's Kims, Than Shwe, Suharto's spawn and the ill-gotten fortunes of other tinpot dictators.

After all, this island is a financial hub. It's like a prostitute who doesn't get picky over the clientele so long as they pay up.
