Every country needs to deal with issues of retirement, healthcare and whatnot....the question is who foots the bill?the rich the middle class or the poor?the government has to strike a reasonable balance.not push everything to the people and let them deal with it...sink or swim.

Learn from the Nordic countries lah ...they got it right. The government ensures that the people's major expenses in life are covered - daycare, education, healthcare, unemployment insurance and pension. In return, you pay high taxes. It is like your insurance premium. After that, you can live worry free. That's why the Danes are the happiest people in the world.

How can the CPF be better than pension?

Look at the Canadian Pension Plan ...pays out about $12k a year and indexed to inflation. For that amount, you contribute 2.5 percent and employer contributes likewise for earnings up to $51k. That is a good deal compared to the CPF where you contribute more and see your savings eaten up by inflation.

So, please show us how is the CPF better than pension.

It's a stupid headline because Singapore does not have a state pension. It has CPF which is a much better scheme.

I didn't receive negative real returns from my CPF savings. I actually made a lot of money in less than a decade. It's up to each and every individual to manage their CPF savings to their advantage.
