SINGAPORE - If Fandi Ahmad's approach for the national football team could be summarised, it would be encapsulated in a piece of action in the 74th minute of the 2-1 friendly win over Cambodia in Phnom Penh on Tuesday (Oct 16).

There was no danger for the Angkor Warriors as centre-back Hong Pheng attempted to shepherd a long punt back to goalkeeper Um Vichet. But the lurking Ikhsan Fandi pounced, pressed and profited to score the winning goal for the Lions.

The victory was their third in four matches under interim national football coach Fandi, after 2-0 wins over Fiji and Mongolia and a 1-1 draw with Mauritius in his first game in charge last month.

Sundram quits as Lions coach after just 3 wins in 23 games

SINGAPORE — After almost two years of torrid results, V Sundramoorthy has stepped down as Singapore national football head coach.

In a media release on Monday (April 9) evening, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) said the 52-year-old has agreed to leave his post by mutual consent.

Sundram's exit draws the curtains on a disappointing 23-month stint that saw the national team win just three games out of 23 "A" international matches played, with 15 defeats and five draws. The Lions were winless for the entire 2017.

I am dismayed that Lions coach V. Sundram Moorthy, who parted ways with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) by mutual consent following a string of poor results, is currently out of job (Sundram steps down as national football coach; April 10).

Sundram did his best as a coach, but most of the players at his disposal were just not up to the mark.

Many of Singapore's senior players are simply not good enough. Some even lack basic soccer skills and knowledge.

Any coach, let alone Sundram, will struggle to produce positive results if his players are not up to the mark. The players, too, need to be disciplined, work hard on their own and take pride in playing for the country.

During his days as a national player, Sundram also did his own training and worked very hard on his skills, shooting and fitness.

That is why he was an outstanding player with extraordinary skills.

Perhaps the FAS could assign Sundram to work closely with schools, both at primary and secondary levels.

With his expertise and vast knowledge of the game, Sundram will be able to spot promising talents and produce future stars.

He will also be able to guide the youngsters on the basics of the game and help them develop their skills.

I am confident that Sundram will be able to groom and produce the football stars of tomorrow.

Based on whats been said, indian racism is just a small part of the problem. Umno should raise this issue at the UN. Minorities are treated worse than the pslestinians.they got their kampung land confiscated with nobody highlighting the issue. Not even the EU.

I think Sinkieland stand a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 next month.
All we need to improve sinkie football:
  • a Malay coach to speak in the language those Malay players can understand
  • an Indian sports journalist for damage control
  • a Chinese bookie to bribe opposing teams
