Taxis rush to adjust fare meters for leap year

Some taxis drivers are complaining that their taxi meters failed to display the correct date today, on 29 Feb.
This is because this date comes around only once every four years on a leap year. Cabbies say that their meters indicated 1 March instead, which may cause problems to fare records and when they issue receipts to passengers.
At Premier Taxis (Silvercabs), located along Chang Charn Road in the Redhill area, many impatient taxi drivers formed long snaking queues since the morning to re-calibrate their taxi meters.
The long queue of taxis spilled over to connecting roads and caused a jam in the area, resulting in the traffic police arriving to monitor the situation.
After a warning from the traffic police, staff members of Premier Taxis were seen directing cabs to an alternative road to access their workshop.
However, this resulted in the taxis crowding into a nearby HDB multi-storey carpark to wait for their turn at the workshop.
A staff member was overheard warning a member of the public not to use the multi-storey carpark near the workshop as it was akin to a "madhouse" at the time.
