This kind of wayang has been going on for decades. Not too long ago, it was the three Tans, in which the old man promptly gotten rid of them under the guise of renewal. If you comb through the current batch of PAP MPs, almost all are docile and colourless technocrats that old man probably can't even tell them apart from the uniformed ADCs in the Istana. I would say the current batch of PAP MPs are even more obedient than those we see in the 1990s.
