She was reportedly hired through a modelling agency to entertain a Chinese client, identified only as Douying, supposedly a 37-year-old man.

Police learned that the agency's models were purportedly often expected to take drugs during their time with clients, Bangkok Post added.

What happened

The incident occurred on Monday, Feb. 10 when hotel staff found an unresponsive woman at around 7:10am, The Standard reported.

The woman had checked in with a Chinese national at 11:16pm the night before.

The woman, later confirmed to be deceased, was found unclothed with no visible signs of physical trauma.

Khaosod reported that immigration records showed Douying had entered Thailand on a tourist visa, valid until July 2025.

CCTV footage showed he was the only person to have entered and exited the hotel room.

Immigration police have since been notified to locate him for questioning.

Controversies surrounding case

The case has been plagued by controversy as reports have emerged suggesting interference in investigations.

The modelling agency had allegedly attempted to offer the victim’s family 100,000 baht (S$4,000) to prevent police involvement, Khaosod also reported.

Bangkok Post added that the deceased's sister was contacted on several occasions and told the Chinese client was willing to pay, and the offer was increase to 200,000 baht (S$8,000), which the family rejected.

The deceased's sister also said that after this, someone claiming to be a police officer contacted the family and urged them to accept an increased compensation offer of 500,000 baht (S$20,000).

On Feb. 13, after the family failed to get compensation, they had to borrow money to hold a modest one-day funeral ceremony in Bangkok.

On Feb. 16, the deceased woman's mother and sister travelled from another province to meet with investigators and were allegedly told that the victim had purportedly used drugs, citing four unnamed witnesses.

Toxicology results would take 45 days to process, an officer also told the family.

Allegedly told to accept compensation

The family alleged they were then told to choose between two paths forward.

They could settle the case and get back Airada’s belongings and a compensation.

Alternatively, they could seek legal recourse and stand an 80 per cent chance of losing, an odds that was presented to them by an officer.

The family allegedly then learned of ties between the modelling agency and investigators, Khaosod also reported.

The family has yet to receive any compensation as of Feb. 16.

The police, in response to criticisms, were apparently announcing they have obtained a court-approved arrest warrant for the Chinese national

BANGKOK — Police have arrested an 18-year-old modeling agent in connection with the death of Airada Potaram, 22, who died while providing escort services to a Chinese client named Wu Douying.

Before her death, Airada had sent messages to her modeling agent asking if she could decline using drugs, but was told she should take “a little” as the client requested.

On February 17, authorities arrested and questioned the modeling agent who communicated with Airada before her death. The suspect, identified as Panita “Alin,” allegedly acted as an intermediary arranging services between Chinese clients and escorts. She has been charged with facilitating prostitution, with potential additional human trafficking charges pending investigation.

During brief comments to reporters while being escorted from the interrogation room, Alin stated that this was Airada’s first escort job. When asked about the victim’s drug use history, Alin claimed she “didn’t know.

Investigation sources revealed that Alin confessed to arranging escort services, including for Airada. She reportedly operated a large modeling agency network with over 1,000 women. Alin would receive payment directly from clients before paying the women, and was trusted within the industry for guaranteeing payment even if clients failed to pay.

Airada’s mother and sister maintain she had never used drugs, according to her close friends’ testimonies. The family has raised concerns about initial police handling of the case, claiming officers suggested accepting compensation instead of filing charges and implied the case would be difficult to prosecute due to voluntary drug use.

Police Colonel Jarin Jintapala of Chokchai Police Station denied any misconduct in the investigation, stating that immigration authorities were notified immediately to prevent the Chinese suspect from fleeing the country. Authorities are currently investigating Wu Douying’s multiple entries into Thailand under the alias “Jessada.”
Dr. Weerasak Charasicharoen, a forensic medicine expert at Srinakharinwirot University, noted that “happy water” and ketamine found at the scene are extremely dangerous substances. He explained that “happy water,” popular among Chinese drug users, contains eight different substances including four depressants and four stimulants, with date rape drugs among them. The combination with alcohol can be particularly lethal, potentially leading to circulatory failure as indicated in preliminary autopsy findings.

The investigation continues as authorities await blood test results to determine the presence of drugs in the victim’s system. Given the family’s insistence that Airada had no history of drug use, investigators are considering the possibility that she may have been forced to consume the substances, leading to a fatal reaction.

Irada’s mother, 45 year old Saowanee Photharam, and her sister, Aunyarat Photharam, spoke to the media yesterday. Aunyarat revealed that the family had only discovered Irada’s work as a party entertainer after her death. They believed she was employed by a private company.
Before her death, Irada contacted her family to request money for her condominium rental fee. However, the family was unable to provide the amount she needed. Aunyarat speculated that this financial difficulty may have pushed Irada to work as an entertainer for the first time, leading to her death.
Aunyarat firmly stated that her sister had no history of drug use and had never discussed drugs or her work as an entertainer with her family.

Thaiger-News-Featired-Image-5-4.jpg

A Chinese national has been apprehended after allegedly coercing a young Thai entertainer into drug use, leading to her death in a hotel.

Duoyin Wu, who fled to Laos, surrendered under pressure from officials after being charged with drug-related offences.

At 3pm yesterday, June 27, Police Major General Nopasin Poolsawat, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, along with Police Major General Thanantorn Rattanasithipak, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 4, announced the arrest of 37 year old Wu.

Wu faces charges including distribution of category 1 narcotics, specifically methamphetamine and ecstasy, distribution of category 2 narcotics (ketamine), and negligent actions resulting in death. The arrest followed pressure from the investigative team at Chok Chai Police Station.
The incident dates back to February 10, when investigators were informed of a young woman’s death at a hotel room in Soi Yothin Phatthana 3, Khlong Chan subdistrict, Bang Kapi district, Bangkok.

The deceased, identified as 22 year old entertainment worker Airada, known as Nong Ai, was found naked on the bed, with ketamine and happy water discovered at the scene. The investigation, led by Police Major General Poolsawat, utilised CCTV footage, revealing Airada’s engagement through a modelling agency to entertain Wu, a Chinese client. She was allegedly coerced into drug use, leading to her death, while Wu escaped.

Chok Chai investigators subsequently gathered evidence to secure an arrest warrant for Wu from the Criminal Court. On February 17, 18 year old Panita, or Alin, the modelling agent who arranged the job, was arrested and charged with facilitating prostitution. She was promptly remanded to the Criminal Court.

It was later discovered that Wu had fled to Laos, prompting continued surveillance and pressure until he returned to surrender at Chok Chai Police Station with legal representation, reported KhaoSod.

According to Police Colonel Pornthawee, Wu denied the charges during questioning, claiming that while drug use occurred, the deceased voluntarily consumed the substances without coercion. Wu has since been handed over to Chok Chai investigators for further legal proceedings.
