Should Dr Koh have such physical contact with a Muslim lady?

Muslims never complain and WP supporters want to complain?
WP more Islamic than muslims?
Who is insensitive to muslims here?

This has nothing to do with supporting WP, PAP, RP, SDP or G M S... get your sights right. We are talking about respect to a person of another race & particularly religion. Were you around, during May 13, 1969...I am sure you weren't even born yet!

It is highly insensitive display of a "show", to get an elderly Malay Woman whose religion is Islam to go on stage & hug her on stage...can I go & hug Halimah the speaker of parliament.

Islam doesn't allow close proximity between person of two different sex, never mind, if one is elderly or not, even shaking of hands. This is how I treat my muslim friends & neighbors & even my che ku who taught me Malay, years ago.

I don't go hug any Muslim woman, I will be asking for trouble...very insensitive & out of decorum. What then does this have to do with whoever political affiliations? You are so insular & narrow minded...is this typical of the people you support, if it is, then it is sad for a nation, that is multi religion, multi racial.

imho the hug is respectful, friendly and cordial. the smile and the body language tell it all...nothing against any form of ethical or religious code.

he will win more muslim votes for sure! he will walk into parliament with ease - a great disappointment for many who wish this good doctor so much ill and contempt.

It is still wrong... I will greet the machik courteously & that is all...have you seen any of he ministers or politicians from the 50's to the 70's hug any Muslim woman publicly, why!..they are careful & they know it is very sensitive. They have gone through turbulent times & they are careful & cautious, this I respect them, may not agree but respect.

We have thrown all caution to the wind...you support this kind of danger?

i agree with what you said. but imho i don't think dr koh is throwing all caution to the wind. you can see that it is a spontaneous gesture and a very friendly and respectful "hug". i don't think our muslim brothers will take offence with that. a picture can tell a thousand words. it's all there : the innocent, the grateful, the supporter, the fan, the quiet and humble acknowledgement...it's all very very innocent.nothing sinister or offensive...frankly i do hug my muslim colleagues .even those wearing tudongs...nothing wrong at all....we are modern singaporeans..:)...and we should not be chained and imprisoned by religious bigotry and taboos.

WP the racist party wants to lecture people on islam.
pui chow nuah.

Have some respect for the oLd Lady wiLL you ?..she is perhaps cLose to her 90s; and you bLatantLy decided to caLL an oLd honourabLe Lady a whore ?..

Fishypie,

I agree with your sentiments.

She is an old lady and may have true feelings for people who are non-Muslims.

Lets be fair and cease criticising people for innocent gestures.

I am sure many of you readers may have been attended to with extreme care and concern by Muslim lady doctors in government hospitals.

Some of you may even have been operated upon by Muslim surgeons.

There maybe readers here who may at one time or another be saved by blood donated by Muslims or receive an organ from them.

That picture show sincere motherly affection to someone who can be her own son. I look at the elderly lady as a motherly-figure.

Please do not be too extreme in your thoughts. We have or had mothers and sisters too.

Muslims are humans after all - just like us.

Dear Andyfisher;

All your points are truly worthy of mention.

I totally agree with you.

There are far more important points to discuss.
