There was a funeral possession going on last week. This is not unusual as there are quite a number of old folks staying in that few blocks. However, the deceased was 101 years old !! The lantern was painted inred stating that she was 101 years old. So, she could be between 98 years old or 100 years old !!![/FONT]
[FONT=Comic Sans MS,Sans-Serif]After finishing my kway chap, a friend pointed to me at a new stall selling Char Kway Teow and Oyster Pancake or Orh Luar. My friend placed the order with a old lady (hawker assistant). Gosh, when the Fried Kway Teow was ready, she was going round the places looking for us when we were sitting right in front of the stall. I commented "Quite a sotong !!" Some of my friends laughed and another chided me for being disrespectful. I told them not to take it seriously as I said it in jest.[/FONT]
[FONT=Comic Sans MS,Sans-Serif]This afternoon, I went to the same hawker centre again to have my lunch as my kaki were there too. When I arrived, the 101 years old deceased was "sent" off and another funeral tent was erected !! I was asking my friend, what had happened ? One after another !!! One of them looked me into my eyes and said, "That was the 'sotong' that you referred to the other day !!" GOSH !!! I was shocked !!! She looked Ok despite being a bit sotong.[/FONT]
[FONT=Comic Sans MS,Sans-Serif]The reason is - she chose to die !!! Another sad story !! She had a cardiac pacemaker and it is about 10 years, time to replace the battery. The whole process will cost about $10K. She did not have the money and she also said that she was old and prepared to go for she had no other family members and staying alone; no point wasting money and she had much satisfaction with her life. She said that if it was time to go, it was time to go. No point going through the agony of borrowing or raising $10K to suffer further. She lamented that it was cheaper to die than to get well and alive in Singapore !![/FONT]

Many or most old folks in Singapore have this better to die then be sick mentality.
