Prominent commentator Roy Ngerng who blogs at
thehearttruths.com received a letter of
demand from PM Lee’s lawyer, Senior Counsel Davinder Singh, yesterday (18
May).
In the letter, Mr Singh said an allegation made in Roy’s article, “Where your
CPF money is going: Learning from the City Harvest Trial”, constitutes a serious
libel against PM Lee (‘
PM Lee sends letter of demand to blogger Roy Ngerng‘).
Mr Singh said that his client, PM Lee, “requires” Roy to immediately remove
the article from his blog and Facebook page, and publish an apology and give an
undertaking on his blog within 3 days of receiving the letter.
In addition, Mr Singh said that his client “requires” Roy to compensate him
“by way of damages” and indemnify him in respect of legal costs and expenses
incurred in connection with the matter.
PM Lee wants an answer from Roy within 3 days of the
letter, including Roy’s written offer of damages and costs. Mr Singh added that
if Roy fails to do so, he has been instructed by PM Lee to commence legal
proceedings against him.
This news was reported by the Straits Times (ST) Online [

today (19 May):
However, it is interesting to note that ST has completely left out the part
about PM Lee “requiring Roy to compensate him for damages and legal costs”. ST
only reported that PM Lee’s lawyer, Davinder Singh, required Roy to publish an
apology:
It is not known why ST left out such a crucial point in its report.
