Sitoh Yih Pin accuses Singapore’s People Party of ‘politicising’ the re-employment issues of Town Council staff
Embattled PAP MP for Potong Pasir Sitoh Yih Pin has lashed out at the Singapore People’s Party for ‘politicizing’ the re-employment issues of the 16 staff of Potong Pasir Town Council.
The Singapore People’s Party has sent a letter to Mr Sitoh yesterday morning petitioning him to retain all the 16 staff at Potong Pasir Town Council as earlier promised by him.
After he won Potong Pasir in the last election, Mr Sitoh terminated the services of the 16 staff at Potong Pasir Town Council and offered them re-employment under the Town Council’s managing agent EM Services instead. EM Services is a joint venture between HDB and Keppel Land. Its CEO is former Hong Kah GRC MP Ang Mong Seng from Malaysia.
The move sparked an outroar in cyberspace with many netizens lampooning Mr Sitoh from reneging on his promise and taking ‘revenge’ on the staff who have been working under former MP Chiam See Tong for a number of years.
Speaking to the state media yesterday, Mr Sitoh claimed that he is not a ‘vengeful’ person and express disappointment that “some parties chose to politicise the leadership transition at the Potong Pasir Town Council.”
‘This is a very serious matter of people’s livelihoods, their bread and butter, I will never throw sand into their rice bowl,’ he added.
Mrs Lina Chiam who lost Potong Pasir to Mr Sitoh by a mere 78 votes had attributed her narrow defeat to the new citizens whom the PAP regime has been mass-importing and converting in the last five years to shore up its flagging support base among native Singaporeans.
SHIT-Oh just threw shit n stirred it in ppl rice bowl!
