Sheng Siong staff don security vests to deter theft

SINGAPORE - Staff of Sheng Siong Supermarket have joined a unique crime deterrent programme initiated by Jurong Police Division and Sheng Siong Supermarket.

The new Community Safety and Security Programme (CSSP) initiative known as Anti-Shop Theft Vest will involve the use of security vests to curb shop theft.

Supermarket staff at Block 6A Woodlands Centre Road helped launch the initiative by donning security vests with the words "SECURITY. May I help you?" printed at the back.

Staff will also be trained to spot potential thieves, making them security officers in combating shop theft at the supermarkets.

This initiative is currently implemented at three Sheng Siong outlets located within the Woodlands estate.

It is a great idea, the management save money hiring from security companies for , store detectives, all you need is CCTV & every staff wear a jacket that says SECURITY & each & every staff have to be trained as security. After the spotted the thief or apprehended the thief...what are they going to do next?? since they are SECURITY??.

SINgaporeans are lousy spotting thieves, especially the 60%, they cannot even spot the 'thieves' who stole their CPF money...can they spot any out there?? & they will catch the wrong one too. I hope SS staff will catch one wrong one & get sued...

The idea is labelling....if you are creative enough, you step into SS with a group of people, all wearing a jacket that says, THIEF & let the SECURITY spot which one stole the can of luncheon meat. They are just enacting the Ali Baba & The 40 thieves....just mark all the door "X"..with do.

The situation must be so bad that their next move is to hire armed security guards if this still does not work. Donch be surprised that the cultprits are mostly FTrash since they know the poodles and kangaroo courts will let them off lightly.
