Precisely. It won't want to antagonize the religious/conservative crowd - its core support base. Okaying gay marriage, at least for now, it is political suicide.

Personally, I don't really care for gay marriage. If gays want to be as miserable as the married straight people (men and women), then by all means they're welcome to carry on fighting for it.

Marriage is not a right, not a privilege, not love, not a sacrament, not a 'divine union', and most certainly not the foundation of society.
