A couple in Shandong province in eastern China were abducted from their bed in the middle of the night in order for a property developer to demolish their house. Police said such situations are common and they cannot handle cases like this, reports the China Internet Information Center, an official web portal.
The couple from Linshu county in the south of the province, an area that has seen rapid urbanization in recent years, were taken while sleeping and reportedly naked when they were snatched. Their house was soon torn down with all their valuables and money buried in the rubble.
The couple had refused to move when asked by a property developer to sell their home. They did not feel the developer's offer was satisfactory and had not found a new place to run their business.
Despite the demonstrable use of violence and coercion on the part of the developer, the police said what happened to the couple is common and they cannot file it as a case.
