I was out of job on 16th April 2012 (1 day short notice).

Like many unemployed Singaporeans out there, I experienced the same emotional setback.

Fortunately for me, I have good family and friends’ support. They encouraged me to start-up my own business.
I started my own engineering business soon after.

Currently, I only have one small project which enables me to cover basic operational cost.

About 2 days ago, I was dining out with a good friend of mine (PRC national) and he made what he thought was a harmless remark – that foreign influx to Singapore stole the rice bowl of many Singaporeans.

However, he added that our Singapore government is very intelligent because foreign influx was the only way to sustain the economy.
He was referring to “construction workers”, a job no Singaporean would perform.

But not only construction worker positions were overtaken by foreigners, many engineering posts, office administrative jobs and several other types of position were gradually replaced by foreigners.

At my former workplace, the office consists entirely of Filipinos, the workshop is made up of PRCs, Indians, Burmese and Malaysians. Only my boss and myself are both Singaporeans.

However, I embraced the culture diversities positively. After reading articles contributed by different fellow Singaporeans, I have second thoughts.
While it is good to embrace culture diversity - understand about another culture; pick up a new language and made some friends across the globe; the influx of foreigners is becoming overwhelming for fellow Singaporeans.

The ratio of Singaporeans versus PRs/New Citizens is about 1:1?

What can we do? It is survival of the fittest.

Simple solution that obviously the 60% hasn't realized yet. Vote for the alternative party. When that happens expect the PAP to "really" apologise

When that happens Sporeans won't care at all

sad state of singapore...the stupid 60% will not realise until they get fucked by the pinoys, ah nehs and ah tiongs

60%: What? Vote out the PAP? Err...wait a minute...

40%: What are you looking for? Have you lost something?

60%: My balls...

Learn the foreign language to pick up the chicks in their own country. So want to pick up a pinoy chick in pinoy land, learn tagalog,,,

When the PAP launch the HDB upgrading scheme, I know of many who voted for PAP bcos they wanted their flat values to increase...they got that increase,,but I wonder if they have lost their jobs?? If they did and are discriminated against in the workplace, they really deserve it,,but sad that they drag the country down with them.

I didn't use to speak Chinese until I had China colleagues n vendors 20 years ago. My Mandarin is now very fluent because of them n I have benefited greatly from it. I find that we are just one big family.

Too bad the 60% is blinded by money, either they are rich or self employed who need more cheap workers or they are worried their private/HDB value will drop or civil servants afraid of losing their jobs.

The smarter ones already start planning to leave Singapore already. Even those students that go universities aboard dont wanna come back. The PAP knows about it. That is why they are complaining about the brain drain.

But dont wait for the PAP to change its policies, it wont change. Better start planning to leave Singapore for greener pastures. That is my advise to all who are sick of Sg. The opposition can never win at all in Sg.

Makaapa,

You have totally twisted his meaning by emphasising the wrong words.

Let's look at it again! What he had meant was :

While it is good to embrace culture diversity - understand about another culture; pick up a new language and made some friends across the globe; the influx of foreigners is becoming overwhelming for fellow Singaporeans.

So the red text shld go together. He shld have placed another "-" to enclose off his examples..and everything will be clear.

While it is good to embrace culture diversity - understand about another culture; pick up a new language and made some friends across the globe - the influx of foreigners is becoming overwhelming for fellow Singaporeans.

Spot on, exactly....Sgp is finished the day floodgates open to foreigners for taxi n security guards licences. Look, after
more than 40 yrs, the policies still do not encourage more babies. These policies' makers ought to kill themselves for
all the current plight/unemployment of those above ages 35. Policies are not favorable enough to employ locals.
