why does sgp gov which profess free trade is itself practising protectionism?

i m speaking about barring motorists to drive into JB for shopping and most importantly fill up their vehicle with cheaper petrol taking advantage of the exchange rate.

sgporeans have already been fleeced avariciously and mercilessly to own a vehicle by COEs. after owning their dream cars, they would have to bear the brunt of traffic jams even though highway robbery in the form of ERPs rob them the rights to drive as they please. then the parking, the vehicle insurance, the compulsory annual vehicle inspection.....etc - all add up to the heavy burden of owning a car.

why then can't the gov allow us to drive into JB to relax, let the hair down, enjoy cheaper good food and shopping and the FULL TANK petrol buy across the causeway?

if our local biz cán't measure up to the competition from JB, it's very unfair that gov imposes ridiculous and unfair law to impede motorists' enjoyment across to malaysia.

can opp GE wannabes make a note about this and voice it out during their rally?

as consumer and motorist, surely we have our rights to spend our money and make every dollar worth. isn't that what our gov is best in doing - milking every singaporean as dry as possibl?

it's about time they cancel off the 3/4 tank rule for sg cars entering into JB.

this unfair practice is synonymous to LEEGAL HIGHWAY ROBBERY!! o1o

just back from JB today. does anyone realise that for the higher premium grade petrol from jb kiosk, it's only about M$2.50? convert that to S$, that's a tremendous saving if one able to fill up full tank!

you must use your vote wisely. only way out is to vote them out

Cannot understand the reason for the rule. We are getting out of Singapore, why force people to buy in Singapore then consume overseas?

Isn't it be the other way round, apply the rule for incoming vehicles and also to all vehicles not only Singapore vehicles.

Reason 1: Because we cannot compete with Msia price ...need protection.
Reason 2: We need to protect our refinery investment....to provide u with jobs .
Reason 3: The refinery and the country need to make 'reasonable' margin ...to subsidise your welfare.
Do you need more excuse from the scholars ??

Agree with reasons 1 and 2 but 3 beg to differ, they can't claim to want to make reasonable margin when they can even offer up to 18% discount off their petrol prices and absorb in 7% GST. That proves that the margin they are making is beyond reasonable perhaps to the point of astronomical.

Folks, petrol u buy here carries a GST and a petroleum tax. You think they will forego this? But the irritating thing about cross border is that our side slows down the re entry becos they need check for goods your bought in JB, and therefore GST to collect. Remember the good ole days when M'sian immigration will cause the jam becos they dont want their citizens to spend money in Singapore ? now its reversed

Tahsar , you dont haves a job , you can go and lives cheaply in JB .

If take away 3/4 tank rule. Then whole day we will see jam in custom.

If not to protect refinery, is to protect the petrol station. Most of the refinery product are export. Also government tax 29% petrol tax plus another 7% GST. That about 36%. So for every $ price pump government make 36 cents.

肥水不流外人田 That's the Pappies theory

that's sheer protectionism and the victims are every sgporean motorists! protectionism which georgie yeo frowns upon so what is sgp trying to prove to the world?
