Synrgic, a home-grown startup has launched its first ever smartphone - the Synrgic Uno, a mid-end smartphone that was designed and developed in Synrgic's Singapore R&D center.
Targeted at young professionals in emerging markets in Asia, Synrgic has selected a set of components that allow for "delivering quality features with surprising value". Here's a quick look at the Synrgic Uno's specifications and notable features.
Home-grown Synrgic launches its first ever smartphone
Synrgic has, instead of the usual Qualcomm or Nvidia, equipped the Uno with a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4470 CPU, possibly making it the last smartphone to feature a OMAP processor (TI has moved OMAP 5's focus to automotive equipment). Apart from that, the usual 1GB (dual channel LPDDR2) RAM and a SGX544 GPU keeps the phone speedy for regular use.
Connectivity-wise, the phone is equipped with Quad Band 3G(HSPA), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi hotspot capability, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, GPS, NFC and FM Radio. Apart from the omission of GLONASS support, the Uno has most of the usual mid-end connectivity specifications.

On the AV related side, a relatively large sized 4.7" 720p (312ppi) S-IPS LCD, with an oleophobic coated Gorilla Glass is included. Careless users may want to take note that the Gorilla Glass included is not the newer Gorilla Glass 2 or 3 and while being relatively tough, may be more prone to damage than screens on HTC or Samsung's smartphones.
Other notable features include a 8mp rear camera with LED flash and 1080p Full-HD video recording capability, a 2mp front camera and dual microphones with noise cancelling functionality. A much larger than usual 2300mAh removable battery powers the phone and Synrgic claims that it is capable of up to 12 hours of talktime on 3G, useful for those who don't have access to a charger while on the go. A microSD slot that supports up to 32GB microSD cards also allow for users who need more than the 16GB onboard storage a choice of expanding the storage size.
Vanilla Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich is currently included, which may be appealing to users who are looking for a bloatware free experience of Android. A upcoming update in Q2 this year would also bring the phone up to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, where it hopefully can also benefit from Project Butter to smoothen out the user experience further.
Perhaps one of the best warranty services around, Synrgic provides a warranty service dubbed "Synrgic Exchange" where customers can exchange their unit for a new one if it is found to be defective during the one year warranty instead of being out of a phone for the repair process. This is certainly appealing for the heavy users who can't do without their smartphones for any period of time.
The Synrgic Uno will first be available at Synrgic’s international online store (www.synrgic.com) at US$320 (approximately SG$400) tax exclusive and will roll out in phases over the next quarter, possibly to Synrgic’s key Asian markets (Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and China). Contract-subsidized pricing is still unavailable.
