Funny but true here this is Singapore for you. I was sitting alone in a fastfood place to have a meal. Next to my table 3 colleges from don't know where were talking and I could hear everything.

The subject was their company's retrenchment going on.

One guy was retrenched talking about the retrenchment benefits he is expecting to get.

Another very disappointed that he did not get retrenched! He said he need money to pay debt and was hoping like hell to get retrenched, and he think his chance was good but very disappointed now that the company had kept him!

To these people retrenchment is alike durians which they are awaiting to fall from the tree. They are unhappy when others got it and they don't. Very short sighted Singaporeans aim only for very short term benefits.

This is a very sick and crazy country.

you must think positive!

if the retrenchment benefit is good, it can be used to fulfilled ones dreams...

may it be going for further studies....or backpacking around the world, or going for training a new skill.....

or even starting up a new business..or even payoff your HDB loans....there are endless possibilities...

Not all people very happy getting retrenchment benefit. Mostly don't want to be retrench even being pay the benefit.
To find out the truth is make the voluntary retrench and only less than 30% or less will sign up.

retrenchment benefits are as good as striking lottery! many got lottery and also got another cushy job! double strikes!!! no wonder singaporeans are so rich! what recession?you go around and you see people spending like crazy! i think singaporeans are among the richest people in the world!!! the holidays are all booked. even cruises are all booked. even queen mary2 cruise is all booked!!!

what recession are we talking about? singaporeans are the richest and luckiest people in the world. thanks to our world class governance under the great leadership of our great leader mm lee and his sm and pm and all the ministers who have sacrificed so much to make singapore what it is today.majulah singapura!!!!

Retrenchment benefit is good for those have skill/knowledge and qualification because they can easily find a new job with the pay about the same and higher.
But not for those without paper qualification and skill, will be very hard to find the new job even can find the jod maybe only half of the pay.

many people without paper qualification runs successful business today. one should not be restricted by ones education.

So sad but its true if the company is in the process of downsizing staffing then its better to go as fast as possible as the retrenchment package is better. Let me give you an example the company I am working for had a few retrenchment exercises around 5years back. The 1st badge got 1mth for every year they work and even a retraining package but the last badge only got 1/2 a month for every year they worked and nothing more. :(
