I visited someone yesterday at SGH. I was surprised that everyone needs to be registered to see that particular patient and at any time only 4 visitors allowed for each patient. Questions:

1. SARS is long gone over where still a need to register?
2. Why allow only 4 visitors at a time so the others got to wait downstairs, one out one in?
3. Is visitors' privacy being invaded?
4. Is this practiced in other hostipals?
5. Are there more sinister reasons for doing these things?

SGH has been quite relax on visitors over the years,
did not know they also started this policy.
TTS all the while is very strict, no visitors allowed
after visiting hours.

There is no uniform policy across the hospitals. In general though, where there is a strict number limitation, there is more flexibility in terms of the hours you can visit, i.e. where they allow only 4 visitors at any one time, visits are allowed throughout the day and evening. Also, limits are stricter as the severity of the condition rises, e.g. limits are stricter for high dependency wards.

Thank you for telling me this as I'm actually on my way there to try my luck for an early visit. Guess I should be let through then.

The rule at TTSH is that when it is the patient's 1st day, they can have 4 visitors without any restrictions on time. Once it is past the 1st day, there are restrictions on when you can visit.

However if your bed is located at the same wing as the Renci building, where the less critical patients are housed, they are not as strict on the hours you can visit. Strangely you pay the same $$$ whether you have a bed at the Renci wing or main building.

The rules don't seem to apply to maids:eek: Many families post one or more of their maids to look after their loved one:eek:

SARS is already long gone. All this visitor restriction nonsense is just a lame excuse on the pretext of health reasons.

If it's for health reasons, then even one visitor can spread contagious diseases to the patients.

FYI, many do not know, during the SARS outbreak, the Malay woman was spread the SARS virus by the Doctor C, when he did not wear mask or gloves and had handled infected document files or he was infected by the nurses, which he passed to the Malay woman, who later died of SARS.

Instead, the Doctor C was made a media HERO by GCT, LHK, the COW and MediaCOCKUP.

The Malay woman did not go overseas and was there for some innocuous lung infection, that's all. The papers reported that the Doctor C could have infected her, but then afterwards, the whole matter was hush-hushed when they decided to make Doctor a folk hero.

The restrictions are inconvenience no doubt, but to a certain extent, it also a good thing.
In the past, we can see the whole kampung camping and making noises in the ward and refused to leave even after visiting hours.
This prevents other patients from having a proper rest.
Not trying to be racist but this is especially truth for certain races.

The only visitor that does not need registration is the Grim Reaper.

He can walk in with his oversized sickle anytime with no problem.

I'm with the patient now in SGH. Registration is required everyday for visitors. Registering counter allowed me to visit despite so early but limited to only per entry because it was outside visiting hours. Anyway good news is patient can be discharge this noon. Great!

The old Grim Reaper could be on the 8th floor of block 7 now as I'm typing. Saw a couple of unmarked TP bikes with F registration, typycal for bodyguard poodles escorts, at the lobby last night and today.

Factual remarks cannot be should not be construed as racist remarks. Yes happens to Indians and Malays.

There was a period of almost a year of my life when I needed to stay in SGH with my late wife who was here for treatment many years ago. Each day corridors, common sitting areas, walkways are crowded with them but one thing I admire them is they will brings Tupperwares and pots of food with them and makan with their fellow visitors at those places I mentioned. Although they are by themselvesoat if the time it became a problem when they make so much noise, take over all the common sitting areas, left rubbish behind.

Glad you got to see you adjusting to local customs:smile:

Suspect all this was some bureaucrats "bright idea" as it shows Spore is world class:p Just imagine the number of jobs this system has created.

Same, same with ATM cards from Spore banks, you now have to tell the banks you are travelling, if you want to use them overseas:rolleyes:

SGH is also a shit place to drive to. Apart from the parking problem, you are also only allow to turn at certain locations and often have to made a big loop to get to your destinations.
