SINGAPORE - Train service between Admiralty and Kranji stations on the North-South line stopped in both directions for about an hour on Saturday.

It resumed at about 7pm.

Free bus and shuttle buses were still available between Kranji and Sembawang MRT stations after train service resumed.

[NSL] Service on both bounds between #Kranji and #Admiralty have resumed. Expect longer travel times as we clear the crowds at the stations

The disruption affected four stations - Admiralty, Woodlands, Marsiling and Kranji.

SMRT said on Twitter that there was a disruption between Woodlands and Kranji at about 5.45pm on Saturday (Jan 9).

The breakdown was due to a "traction power fault", it tweeted.

A tweet at around 6pm said that the disruption had extended one more station to Admiralty. Free bus and bus bridging are available.

"We are working to recover the service," SMRT tweeted.

[NSL]: No train service between #Admiralty and #Kranji in both directions. We are working to recover the service.

Passengers in one train had to be "detrained" at Marsiling Station, SMRT said.

"Passengers aboard one train travelling in the direction of Marina South were safely detrained to Marsiling station," it said in a statement on Facebook at 6.53pm.

Information sheets on alternative transport options were available, and more staff were deployed to the affected stations, SMRT said.

How to piss off train passengers 101: Tell them that the tracks are faulty and ask them to exit the station. Only to make another announcement after everyone has exit the turnstile that the next train will continue going south-bound. #smrt #socialmediacrisis #prcrisis
