SINGAPORE: Flash floods were observed in several parts of Singapore on Saturday (Dec 24), the day before Christmas.

According to the Land Transport Authority's Twitter page, the areas affected are:

Newton Circus (towards Woodlands) after Cavenagh Road
Stevens Road near Anderson Road/Balmoral Park Junction
Balmoral Road near Balmoral Crescent/Balmoral Road Junction
Cairnhill Road near Cairnhill Road/Scotts Road Junction
PIE (towards Changi Airport) at Stevens Rd Exit

Photos sent to Channel NewsAsia also show the streets of Upper Thomson Road flooded with water on Saturday afternoon.

Various users on social media also noted that traffic the area near the junction of Paya Lebar Road and Sims Avenue were stuck due to the floods.

I was visiting & eating eating at that prata store at Thomson Road during lunch time & it was a balmy day.
That area is a happening place with many eateries there & they are building the new MRT station at that location.

If that area is going to experience flash floods what is going to happen to the MRT station there:confused:

u have heart prob still eat prata.

entry platform into mrt station is typically raised by 6.9 feet to prevent flash floods from spilling over. unlike ny metro, sg mrt doesn't flush stair and escalator entries with ground level. for tiny but important details like these, sinkies should thank their mrt planners.

I "had" a heart problem. It's improved a lot. Haven't had angina pains in years. My hear problems were actually caused by eating too much sugar.
I usually eat at home but I do like a change once in a while. Been at least a year since I last had roti prata.

I remember that Novena station had some problems with water getting into the station. That station is below a mall, so I wonder what happened there?

SMRT is having problems with train, track & signals. I guess we'll have to wait & see if water problems will arise in the new stations. Currently the existing underground stations are not in potential flash flood areas like Thomson. Looking at the photos the flooding at Thomson is pretty bad & water may seep into the stations from other parts & not only from the entrance e.g. the walls/ceilings of the station.

Hope they have done a good job waterproofing the station & tracks.

all underground stations are either at basement 2 level or under basements of malls, so they are subject to flooding if mall basement gets flooded. the mall has a design and maintenance issue which affects the station but not the other way around. i'm referring to street entry to mrt stations not mall entry to stations. at street entries, notice all mrt station entries are raised several feet above ground level. sinkies kpkb when they have to climb a flight of stairs or ramp to get to mrt escalators. they are raised above ground for a reason.

I'm thinking about the long term & how water will eventually seep into the station if there is water building up above ground like the flooding at Thomson. I doubt the designers have factored in this problem. Knowing the culture of cutting corners that exist in Spore today, I won't be surprised if we have problems in the future.

How come the PM and ministers' houses are never affected?

They had already figured it out. Almost impossible to flood but if a freak happenstance occurs, it 's once in 50 years years. And that is just mere ponding.nothing to worry about.

no prob.even if water raise above entry ground level, yes water will seep down the stair and escaltaors.
but all basement have underground pumps to pump out water into sewage system
