In Singapore, the police is not that powerful. Our government controls them. In the West, the police controls the politicians. No politician will challenge the cops.
They're just part of the state machinery. Similar to China's 公安. They serve the Party... 党警.

In the West, how good the police are depends on the mayor and the police commissioner. If one or both of them are liberal scumbags or BLM types, expect crime to soar in that city.
