[Sg] - SBS Bus Driver mercilessly kicks Primary schoolboy out of bus because his EZ link card was short of 30 cents for his fare

read the whole article:

1)boy boarded with $0.26 in the card for a $0.56 trip fare
2)father quoted: "My son said he didn't understand what the driver said to him. But why did he need to alight at the next stop? This is my concern."
3)father quoted: ""My son was in full school uniform, clearly indicating his destination at Bendemeer Primary School," Sanchez told Stomp."
4)Boy is in Primary 5
5)father's name - SANCHEZ

draw your own conclusion

Liddat if bus captain allow it….then the school boy everyday use the same card without topping up the value he can cheat the system and get free bus ride everyday

The driver is in a "damn if he does" and "damn if he does not" situation.

I believe that all of us should practise and show compassion to fellow human beings. Short of 30 cents is very insignificant, and therefore, all students under the age of 12 should ride or travel free.
Before about 2008, children from age 3 onwards have to pay a child's fare on the Toronto Transit. Since then all children under age 12 travel free.
Senior citizens pay a discounted fare.
Several years ago, the Toronto Transit Commission implemented an unlimited travel and transfer within 2 hours of payment of the fare, which allowed individuals to run errands or meet someone for lunch, and travel free within the 2 hours.

Blame the bloody parents…. Don’t give enough money to their children
sometimes either students or parents get lazy or forgetful about ez-link top ups. for mrt, there’s no negotiation as it’s auto gate-controlled. so student must top it up at station pay machine. there’s a cash option in one machine so no sexcuse. for buses, can pay difference with coins or 2 dollar bill. this student probably didn’t have cash or pretended not to have cash to try to suan driver. (they usually have cash to buy snacks and makan at school.) if this student has a repeat pattern of not having enough balance on his card, the driver will know and refuse boarding. on most occasions presumably from my own sexperience and observations driver is kind enough to waive it.

in sg i have never encountered bus drivers refusing boarding over a few coins short of a usable ez-link card. this is either a repeat offender or someone the driver has flagged for chow kuan behavior. or the story is bogus rigged with inaccuracies and suspicion.

Nobody in their right mind will use auto topup for ezlink cards here, if ezlink card no money just use any bank card with visa mastercard function tap to pay for public transport
