This 'debate' is just one big wayang. There are much more pressing domestic issues to debate.

Basically the PAP wants to manage the Malay ground which is an important vote bank, while continuing to suck up to Israel and the US. Hence the debate to assuage the Muslims here. Trying to have their cake and eat it too.
