The Govt argues that its strict control over personal lives is essential for economic progress. Our leaders assert that authoritarianism ensures efficiency, labour peace, long-term planning and policy continuity. Authoritarianism has not guaranteed economic prosperity in countries like Cambodia, North Korea, or Zimbabwe. It seems obvious that our govt seeks to achieve economic growth at almost any cost, tempered only by the need to maintain social stability and prevent threats to its power. Do you agree?
