I was a volunteer at my local CC distributing the tokens so here are some tips/insights into the redemption process.
[ COLLECTION PROCESS ]
[ COLLECTION PROCESS ]
- If you have installed the TraceTogether app, please do consider collecting the following week for the benefit of the elderly who are not tech-savvy. With school holidays having already started, many families/parents are eating out and "one shot" collect token. This means longer queueing times. From 10am to 2pm and eight collection counters, the queueing time for today (Day 1) was at least one hour and it is really tiring and painful for some of the elderly bunch.
- Expect to spend around 5-10 minutes at the collection counter because in addition to scanning NRIC and token QR code, us volunteers are also answering queries and giving token care instructions.
- You need to bring or at least show photo of physical NRIC, ideally both sides. We use an app to scan the barcode, but if that fails, we manually type in.
- You also need to provide contact number that will be tied together with the token. This can be the person's personal phone no. or home number. Let the volunteer know if you don't have phone number. (I met a few elderly who don't.)
- Here's how the volunteers will help you redeem: scan/input NRIC (5s) -> scan token QR code (5s) -> input your contact no. (5s) -> write your name on the white part (10s) -> give care instructions + Q&A (1min+). Repeat all but the last step if you are redeeming multiple tokens.
- The tokens has unique QR code at the back, but a non-unique alphanumeric code based on collection location. That's why we need to write name on token.
- Some volunteers will write your name on the token, some let you do it yourself. The token is quite small and the white name space even smaller so we use fine tip perm marker (that may smudge if it doesn't dry fast enough).
- Yes, you can collect on behalf of household.
- We don't give TraceTogether token for kids under 6 because they are usually accompanied by an adult and thus do not need it. 6yo this year are going into primary school next year so they can redeem BUT it is totally optional.
