cheeseandcocaine :
Hello Locals,
I’m a tourist in Singapore, arrived on Sunday. Just three days later I was walking back to the hotel at the Kampong Glam area at around 10:30pm, and saw a guy forcefully squeezing a girls hand, like he didn’t want to let her walk away.
So I stop like 5 meters away to see what’s gonna happen, and then the guy got upset shouting at me everything that came into his mind (why am I watching, fuck my mother, this is just my wife etc). I told him I have no problem calling the police and standing and watching someone else is not a crime I guess ;D. So he got really angry, I started videoing him as he started walking towards me because I felt like that will deescalate the situation and he will realise getting physical is not a good idea, then he hit my phone/hand.
So just to put into context I’m from Europe. If you are in a situation like this - also you have a video of the guy attacking you - you are OK to use self defense as you don’t know if the crazy guy will softly hit you, or knock you out. Of course you can’t use “unproportional force”, but you don’t have to stand like a Merlion statue.
I just told him “don’t touch me” as the girl came back to bring him away, I guess she didn’t want the guy end up on tiktok fy.
Of course I went to the police to make a report, my advantage is that there was a cctv right at that place, so if they want, they can see there was nothing that I did to him before he came and hit me. Also from him coming to me, hitting me and leaving I have it from my POV. After the report is done it seems I have three options:
A: leave the thing, nothing good will come out of it, don’t even post the video.
B: post the video, but blur the faces, change the voices
C: pursue for legal action at court.
Which letter would you choose and why?
