Serial thief arrested

A 33-YEAR-OLD man, believed to be responsible for a series of theft cases in high-end shopping boutiques, was arrested on Thursday. Police officers recovered items amounting up to $40,000 during a raid on his home.

The items included an assortment of branded costume jewellery, handbags, watches, sunglasses, all which were believed to have been stolen from high end boutiques.


Police said between August and September, a spate of thefts and a break-ins were reported at a shopping centre in Orchard Road. The suspect was believed to have entered the boutique by forcing open the wooden sliding door before he ransacked the shop.

In other cases, he was believed to have posed as a customer to steal valuable items on display.
The suspect's identity was established after police went through all CCTV recordings and conducted follow-up investigations and intelligence work.

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 33-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for a series of theft cases in high-end shopping boutiques.

Between August and September this year, a spate of thefts and a break-in were reported at a shopping centre in Orchard Road.

The value of the items stolen amounted to about S$20,000.

The suspect is believed to have entered one boutique by forcing open a wooden sliding door before he ransacked the shop.

In other cases, he is believed to have posed as a customer to steal the valuables on display.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday at his home in Tampines at about 7.20pm.

Police recovered an assortment of branded costume jewellery, handbags, watches and sunglasses which amounted to about S$40,000.

The suspect will be charged in court on Saturday.
