Manpower Minister Tan See Leng faced backlash in 2021 after assuring migrant workers whom he referred to as his "brothers" that they would receive appropriate medical care following mass protests at the Westlite Jalan Tukang dormitory. The statement was hypocritical, as there was a disconnect between TSL's words and the harsh quarantine conditions at the dorms. Workers protested against poor quality food and inadequate medical care, but were met with riot police rather than doctors and ambulances. A Bangladeshi migrant worker, Zakir Hossain Khokan publicly stated: "Please do not call us your brothers," expressing frustration that the Minister's words were a pretense of care while conditions at the dorms were slave-like.

Maybe he can mention that he is a foreigner. In that case, he might receive more than 600 calls instead.
