Chairman of Sembawang-Nee Soon Town Council, Hawazi Daipi

The Sembawang-Nee Soon Town Council has been fined $200 for mosquito breeding.
Officers from the National Environment Agency (NEA) has found mosquito larvae in its water tanks on the rooftops of Blocks 896C and 899A in Woodlands.
NEA is reminding town councils to step up efforts to prevent dengue.
Dr Teo Ho Pin, coordinating chairman for PAP town councils, said, “Water tanks have got many areas which are difficult to access for normal inspection and become very challenging. You have water breeding in some of these places because the birds actually bring leaves and twigs and choke our rooftop, drains and it is quite difficult to inspect rooftop every day. So it becomes very challenging in some of these areas.”
The Chairman of Sembawang-Nee Soon Town Council is Mr Hawazi Daipi, who is also the Senior Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower.
2 years ago, an Indonesian maid’s body was found in a water tank on the rooftop of Block 686B at Woodlands Drive 73.

MP Vikram Nair

To quell the concerns of the residents there whether the water was drinkable, Sembawang GRC MP Vikram Nair drank straight from the tap to prove to everyone that the water was safe to drink.
During a house visit, he filled a glass with tap water before consuming it in front of the household’s residents.
The stunt was captured on YouTube with a voice giving a running commentary, “Today is 18 May 2011. We are at 686B, this is the ninth floor. And my MP Vikram Nair is now drinking the water from the water mains pipe.”
“This is to show that the water is fully tested and is safe to drink. If the MP can drink it, you all should trust that it’s safe,” the voice said.
It is not known if Mr Nair will pull the same stunt again to prove the water is still safe to drink despite NEA finding mosquito larvae in the tanks in Sembawang GRC.

Do not be misled by the NEA. After tekaning WP, they are trying to balance things up by taking action against PAP's Sembawang-Nee Soon. But, $200 fine is just a bloody joke!
