China has attacted the attention of the international defense community after developing a third stealth fighter with the capability of vertical take-off and landing, reports our Chinese-language sister newspaper Want Daily.

The J-18 is China's third stealth fighter model after the J20 and J-31, the latter of which completed its test flight on Oct. 31. The development of the J-18 was first reported by Tokyo-based Asahi Shimbun last year, which revealed that the plane had already completed its test flight at a secret base in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Defense News, based in Washington DC, said this 4.5 generation fighter designed by China's Shenyang Aircraft Corporation is nicknamed "Red Eagle."

The development of the fighter was confirmed by Jane's International Defense Review earlier this month. According to the monthly magazine, the J-18 is mounted with two vector jet engines for horizontal thrust, though it is still unknown whether this new Chinese fighter jet adopts the lift style of the US F-35 or Russian Yak-141.

The range of the J-18 is estimated to be 2,200 kilometers with a speed of 2.5 Mach. Defense News described the J-18 as having super-stealth characteristics and is equipped with a laser active phased array radar.

Military website Asian Defense stated that the ability of the Chinese to design and produce its own 4.5 generation stealth fighter has changed Russia's attitude towards selling fourth generation fighters to China, and is why Russia eventually agreed to sell 48 Su-35 fighters to China with advanced 117S engines.

A meeting was also called by the US Department of Defense last year to increase the number of F-22 and F-35 fighter jets in Asia to counter the threat of the "Red Eagle," the website added.

There's still three days to go before the official opening of the world’s longest high speed rail line -- from Beijing to Guangzhou. But the ticketing price war has already begun, as the rail and aviation industry compete to lure passengers with a need for speed.

A 22 hour train journey now reduced to eight. It’s no wonder tickets for the new Beijing to Guangzhou high speed rail line have been flying off the counter.
Zhang Min, Engineer, Guangzhou Railway Group, said, "We’ve sold nearly five thousand tickets in just three days. They’re selling online, through telephone sales, ticket agencies and ticket vending machines."

Airlines are feeling the heat and many have responded by slashing fares.
Wang Yi, Deputy Manager, Wuhan Sales Department, Air China, said, "All our tickets between Wuhan and Beijing are discounted, some with nearly 90-percent off the original price. We still think our passenger numbers will fall by about 20 percent. We’re going to keep looking at ways to boost our business, from an international perspective."

It’s down to passengers to make their own choices, over which fast lane to take.
"I want to use the high-speed railway."

"I prefer to go by plane because it’s more relaxing and comfortable."
More competition always brings more consumer choice and usually lower fares to boot. Some airlines are even looking to work together with the rail industry, to provide integrated rail and air services early next year.

[h=1]Chinese breakthrough in shrinking IC technology[/h]
BEIJING, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese scientists have made a breakthrough in cracking a key technology in constructing integrated circuits (IC), news which is expected to help pull up global market shares of domestic IC producers.
The Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMECAS) announced on Friday that it has developed metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors with a gate length of 22 nanometers, a preliminary step to obtaining electronic circuits with a width of just 22 nonometers.
Instead of turning to traditional materials such as silica and polysilicon, researchers tried high-k/metal-gate materials in making the device to save cost and ensure the device's "world-class performance and low power dissipation," according to the IMECAS.
Technology firms around the world are coveting 22-nanometer IC technology for its potential to hack the cost of manufacturing products like computers and cellphones that are heavily reliant on the minuscule circuits.
China initiated its research in this field in 2009 as one of its major national scientific projects.
The IMECAS said the full harnessing of 22-nanometer IC technology would mean huge savings for China in importing foreign technologies and boost China-made IC products' competitiveness.
Twenty-two nanometers is about one-2,300th of the length of a hair's diameter, while 22-nanometer IC technology can make it possible to put 10 million transistors in an area equivalent to the cross section of a hair.

So stealth that it will even crash silently without even a fizzle.

Easier to cover up.

After working consecutively for 2 fucking ah-tiong companies, my conclusion is that they can make good stuff, plagarise anything but don't expect any form of QC from these unprofessional and irresponsible motherfuckers..

Wake me when the communists have something original and really a breakthrough that will massively change the world for the better.

The Chinese elite have thousands of their offspring in US studying or working there. They are not going jeopardise their immediate families' future and happiness. The weapons are to make their ignorant peasants feel proud and become more productive.

Many including me were laughing when the J20 and J31 were revealed but after seeing this I think its not funny anymore.
