SDP teams continue house visits

Singapore Democrats

Teams of SDP members and volunteers continue to fan out across the Bukit Panjang and Bishan-Toa Payoh constituencies to visit and meet residents. Regardless of weekends or weekdays, the Singapore Democrats are working hard to get our message across to the electorate.

Even as we build up our capacity on the Internet, we are making sure that our fieldwork and ground support is not neglected. Because of the media blackout, reaching out to the electorate directly is a crucial part of our campaign.

As a result of our walking the blocks and coffeeshops, several residents have come forward and indicated their interest in helping in our campaign.

More than just spreading our message, however, our members are using the opportunity to listen to the concerns of the residents. The feedback helps us to refine our ideas on how we can make life better for them.

Several households we visited indicated that they are having problems with the cost of living. One worry that many have is that their PUB bills have gone through the roof. One grandmother said that recently when her son moved in with his wife, their utilitiy bill went up by 100 percent from $200 to $400.

"How can this be?" she asked in exasperation. "They're both working and they don't come home till very late at night. Something is not right."

To be sure, making such rounds and doing walkabouts is a physically taxing exercise. The PAP has the advantage of getting the Residents' Committees to help them. The playing field is decidedly tilted.

We need to reach out to you, our friends and supporters, and to ask you to sign up as volunteers and help us walk the blocks. We will train new recruits and team you up with our more experienced campaigners.

If we are going to bring about change, we need all your support. Making our rounds and getting to know the residents is an essential part of the process. It is hard work but there is no shortcut. We need as many people as we can get to help us get the job done.

This kind of thing SDP shouldn't post.

SDP should tell the grandmother, please ask your son and daughter-in-law, don't take couple bath and don't on aircon when sleeping.

SDP can do house visits all over singapore everyday, all it takes is 1 letter from CSJ to destroy the effort :D

They were doing 'rub a dub dub'...two naked couple in the tub..then proceed to the bed for bedminton...aircon on!...but government very happy, what!...no long after a mtoney making 7% product will be born....:D

Another thing is they have very badly taken photos.

Out of focus, out of subject. They should try taking more photos for the areas they visited and then choose the better photos.

1st photo can't even see the SDP people's face. 1/2 shot of the resident face, and the photo is not focused.

2nd photo, see the back of the head of 2 SDP members, and that lady's face was like partially covered by the door grilles.

Image is also very important. So they should not take slipshod photos.

Same bunch of gutless oppos who don't dare to go Tanjong Pagar GRC. It is so obvious next erection no more Tanjong Pagar GRC. Oppos stand to lose when it becomes 5-6 single wards and they did nothing there all these years!

How would you have taken the photos in a door to door call? Not many people would want their photos to be published in a opposition web site. It will be quite impossible to get the people to pose for the photos so those photos are the next best thing SDP could use.

Please read the article again. They "claimed" several residents have come forward and indicated their interest in helping in their campaign.

And next time if they want to use their backs to face the camera, SDP should print new T-shirts with their SDP and their logo at the back of their shirts. 1 logo at the front and 1 at the back. So that even if there is no foreword or article, just by looking at the photo can see that its SDP members doing house visits and not some uniformed organizations doing door to door selling.

Actually, those photos SDP used are good.

They need to use a photo showing the residents, if not people will think the house visits did not take place.

If the residents posed with SDP members, people may think the event is staged.

So those existing photos are good, it showed the house visit did occur and the photos are not staged, this adds to the realism of the photo.

On top of this, the first photo showed the resident smiling, it showed SDP is well received in the constituency.

Actually take house visits as marketing. Where party members market themselves and the party to residents. With marketing comes packaging.

The reason why SDP has a website, has photos, has articles is to reach out to people who view it online or through other media. Without 1st hand interaction with people, what comes next is how well written the article followed by good clear photos. Photos must be able to tell a message even without an article. Because there are people who cannot read, cannot bother to read rows and rows of text. Without photos, people may not want to continue reading an article. With good photos, people will continue to read what is interesting in the subject. The 2 photos above just by itself without any text, just ask anyone on the streets what does the picture depict and I can guarantee at least 90% will say its door to door selling goods.

Don't let a bad photo spoil good content. They go hand in hand.
In this modern day society, you package yourself well, people will be more willing to receive you. Just like there is a difference between a black and white pamphlet and a full colour pamphlet. Small minor details make a difference. That's why there are people who are consultants in image, marketing, packaging etc.

It's all about winning more people over.

And the last thing (no one will put up a photo where the resident is slamming the door shut on you, it doesn't make sense, of course they put smiling faces) Even if the photo is staged, who cares? :p Most important thing is the message is brought across through a photo that there are people who support you.

Look at that patch of sweat at the back of the lady.

All those hard work, walking from block to block, door to door, greeting and getting to know the residents.

With all the hard work and sweat, don't you think the SDP deserve your vote? :p

I dun disagree with u on this.

However, there is no need for SDP and their supporters to go around and trumper about what they are doing. This is another example of SDP's megalunatic attitude that would put people off.

House-visits and walkabouts are meant to attract people on the ground and that should be done so on the ground. trying to show its done through the internet is just like putting on a show. the main thing is for the grassroots to talk about and layman voters to take notice, not to boast online when most of those on the ground actually take no notice.

SDP still have lots to learn when it comes to gather grassroot support.

one more thing to add:

Did those residents give permission for their pics to be splash all over the internet?

CHEEBYE! even SDP also working veri hard going door to door doing house visits....but fucking NSP leader... onli know how to surf this forum 24/7 posting nonsense instead of doing house visit in tampines...FUCK NSP!!:oIo:

The internet can let them reach to other people who are net savvy and also to the younger generation. So if they are putting up articles and photos, it must be packaged well and logo is very important. It's their branding.

Just like PAP, SDP, WP, sometimes ask the old people, they cannot pronounce, but they will tell you its the party with a lightning or the party with a hammer. It's locked into their brains already.

And I agree on the part of grassroot support. But it is not easy to gather this support. Not only for SDP but also for opposition parties who do not have a MP in charge of that ward.
