Still I don't think SDP will be that dumb to prevent people from buying "big dogs".
With unlimited wealth, you can have as many bungalows and jaguar cars as you like. There's no way to set a law to say you can't buy a third condo or a 5th car. Just that a SDP government will make it more expensive to do it. Maybe a WP government too.
That's because you spend your personal own wealth, no matter how personal it is, it does have a bearing on prices.
And examples in this case are extremely important, because he's trying to make a very abstract point about monetizing public values and social norms, and if his examples are flawed at the core, that changes the way the whole article is read.
