Schools requires you own an ipad now. Acceptable?

Kids nowadays are really pampered lot.. Just last week I went to Parkway Parade with the wife.. Saw one young brat complaining rudely to his dad that the plastic bag he was carrying was too heavy.. The Dad then carried the bag and the young brat then took out an Iphone from his pocket and happily played with it while walking to the taxi stand.. 10 years old boy already owning an Iphone..

That's nothing. I was in the waiting room of a clinic and sitting next to me was a kid no more than 6 or 7 years old playing games on his iphone. At first, I thought he borrowed it from his mother to kill time... until the mother's iphone rang and she took it out of her handbag and started chatting.

Kids with iPhone are nothing bro.

You've not seen kids with ipads showing off to their peers, and these kids are like preschool age.

There is nothing wrong with kids having their own phone. Am i right?

Iphones and ipads are the new age pacifiers.
If the kids do not have these gadgets, the chances are they will bother the parents with their antics.
School wants the ipads to keep the student quiet!

I envy the kids of today.. During our time, its just a humble Casio calculator for us to bring to school..

Since the school made it compulsory, they must have a deal with apple.
Anyway, ipad is not a good choice because the memory is restricted. Its better to use an Android for the purpose

How did you know they did a deal with apple? If you have read the article, one of the other schools are using a Samsung tablet instead. RTFM anyone?

Do not envy your later generations, bro. Instead, count your blessings.

My time, calculators are humongous machines! We all need to carry a book filled with multiplication/division, Square Root, Log.........tables. And always need to refer and do interpolation if figures are not exact in tables! These books can be brought into exam hall, including "O"-Levels!

If cockeye and see wrong puny figures among the thousands of small figures in tables, you are screwed.

Why didn't they just bring the maid & have her carry everything :p

But with all the luxuries that these parents accorded to their kids, the pressure will also be on the kids to perform in their studies.. I have seen many of these kids having unnecessary extra tuitions even during weekends..

Picked up my nephew from his school the other day.. Saw many of his classmates with their maids carrying their bags.. These young boys are too dependent on their maids..

Looks like no more trolley bags for schoolkids now.

i know several school banned trolley bags for primary school students. as long the form teacher follow the timetable then there no reason for kid to carry heavy bag.

as for ipad, several primary schools in singapore already started the program a couple years ago. it suppose to be experimental, the schools are listed out during the registration period. i was tempted to enrol my son in one of the schools as it walking distance from my home but in the end enrolled in a conventional school because my wife as ex student can get in as phrase 2A wheras that school have to go in phrase 2B.

since the whole cohort need to get ipad, so there maybe a discount since it bulk order for the whole cohort of around 210-240 students.

I believe Apple always has an education discount for students, not sure if it applies to Singapore or not.

bro, u havn't got a kid rite? sometime it not the parent who want to stress the kid, it the school applying pressure on the parents as the kid performance no up to school standard. when u and i were kid, go primary 1 at most can recite ABC now ABC consider no standard, mininium must be able to read the article they provide. my kid dont is it kancheong and gabra when teacher test him. The test show my kid reading standard only 5yo and make him go to school early one day every week. machiam like remedial class for all the kids that fail the test, when i dispute the result, they refused to show me what the test about and insist the test very accurate 1, die die it my son fault. lan lan had to accept result but by june when they retest him again to assess his performance, the test show his reading standard at 9yo. limpei went to the school to kan the teacher, where got improvement so much only after 12 remedial lessons? in the end the HOD and VP meet me to explain but i not total convince. dont say i scare u, u better prepare your child before u enrol he/her into primary 1.

Not so bad for the boys since they will eventually wake up to the "hard truths" in Spore e.g. NS, work pace,..

However it is different for the girls who may never survive without a maid as long as they stay in Spore

Knn, I heard its bad, but I could never imagine this bad. THat is why I don't want my kid to grow up in Singapore!

If don't have or don't want to buy, how?
Must leave the school?

I dont think so jw5. If the schools want to implement this they will have solutions to these kind of situations.
