School teacher 'traumatised' after pupil exposes himself in sexual manner

A school teacher was 'extremely upset and traumatised' when a pupil exposed himself in a sexual manner, a judge in the High Court was told today
Ms Justice Mary Baker heard Gemma Sheridan had been in her classroom at Beneavin Secondary School in February 2011 when the incident happened. The boy’s parents had been informed and he had been absent from school for some time.
Ms Sheridan (45), of Abbey Drive, Riverston Abbey, Navan Road, Dublin, claimed she required medical attention and had been off work for several weeks. She is suing her employer for personal injury and negligence.
Barrister Conor Kearney, counsel for the Board of Management of the school in Beneavin Road, Finglas, Dublin, told the court Ms Sheridan was suing her employer for the manner in which it had dealt with the incident.
He said the school denied having been negligent and was seeking discovery of her contemporaneous notes of the incident along with medical notes.
Ms Sheridan claims she suffered psychological injury and trauma for months due to the incident and the lack of support from her employer when she returned from sick leave.
Judge Baker granted the school’s Board of Management discovery of the documents it sought.
