A secondary school in eastern China has launched an investigation after a video appeared online showing several young teens in school uniform drinking with a middle-aged man, mainland media reports.

The video has attracted wide attention on the Twitter-like Weibo and instant messaging app WeChat since it surfaced online on Saturday, according to China News Service.

The footage, which lasts about nine seconds, shows four pupils who look about 14 or 15 drinking with the man at a table.

A bottle of white liquor and two beers are set out before them.

The students were dressed in the uniforms of Suqian Qinghua Middle School in Suqiang city in Jiangsu province, according to the report.

The principal said the man wasn’t a teacher at the school.

It wasn’t sure whether the girls were indeed its pupils as their faces could not be seen clearly.

“It was 10pm, and all pupils should be either in their dormitories or at home. It’s unlikely our pupils were hanging out so late,” the principal said.

The school was looking into who took the video and put it online, the report said.
