Can't you tell that the sentence was mocking? If scholars were anywhere near omniscient we won't be seeing things like JCS and the arid state of liquidity experienced by our countrymen.

Yup, I know!..but I am echoing the fact to those, who listen intently, if we protect Singaporeans..etc., the companies will move...etc..

etc..etc.. etc...

The restaurant may argue that the German waiter would be useful in serving German customers who spoke very little English. Just like a non Japanese airlines would usually have one or two Japanese flight attendants on Japan routes.
.

He was just an ordinary waiter but you right, when the odd german without knowledge of german turns up, he will be useful.

First he made the hokkeins, Cantonese, Teowchews etc think that their mother tongue is Mandarin. Then the rest is pretty much history.

Let begin shifting our patronage to those businesses that are employing Singaporeans during these difficult times when there are clear choices to be made.

...

Nothing against foreigners but after seeing a German waiter, I think the message has to be sent.

Clear choices? Clear to who? Unless you are actively recruiting for that particular company, you do not know what kind of choices they faced.

What's wrong with a German waiter in a German restaurant? A chinese waiting tables in a German restaurant will put me off more. The nepalese and pinoy is another story though.

In this difficult times, every businesses are trying to cut costs. If Company X's competitors are hiring cheaper labor, why shouldn't Company X.

The problem is not with the companies, but the Governement's lax policy of issuing work permits. Times are already bad enough of businesses, do not make it worse for them.

Can not be worse than an unemployed singaporean with kids wondering why Singapore got no unemployment benfits while the German anytime can go back and get unemployment benefits.

Get the picture! Go ask your PAP MP why unemployed singaporeans got nothing like Germany while the german works here.

Must be the white scum lah. They open the economy up for competition thus depress price. On other hand claim they do a good job and deserve to pay themselves million dollars pay check. Double standard rite?

Remember this and vote them out the next erection!

I have no MP, at least not in Singapore. You, on the other hand, appear to work for the people who make all these happens.

Why is the German allowed to work as a waiter in the first place? Was he imported to wait on tables? For all you know he is a dependent (his parents working here) living in Singapore. Or working a second job? If so, what's wrong with that? Basically, we know NOTHING!

You are calling for a boycott of companies that hire non-Singaporeans, and you qualify that with "clear choices". I assume you can be the judge and jury on whether they do have clear choices.

Again, the problem is not with the businesses. The problem is with the government for allowing these businesses the choices. Once Company A goes with the choice of cheaper labor, there is no reason why Company B should not.

You might one to remain as such - know nothing. The first thing I am wondering is how this chap is working here. As I mentioned in another thread, out of curiosity we asked his colleagues and found out that he was not related to the owners and was just another staff like them.

By the way, all countries look after their citizens first. Try getting a job anywhere out there and you have to jump thru hoops.

This is a highly pro-business govt with social obligations at the bottom. Its time it found a balance.

Why didn't you ask the German himself?

Exactly. Why do you want to penalize the businesses then? Isn't there a ratio of sorts? One can only hire x non-sg for every y sg in the company? If these companies fold, there will be more Singaporeans without jobs as well.

I disagree. These are not normal times. Foreign labour and skills were absolutely necessary when we needed to grow the economy and unemployment was acceptable.

Not now. Drastic measures are needed. Even the PAP MP Ong Ah Heng has pointed out the phantom workers issues - abuse of the system. Lets also take out unproductive services that are chugging along with low wages. So that the better managed business get better sales and prosper.

Do understand, it looks silly when a Singaporean mother cannot get work because a Pinoy has taken over Counter duties at a store, clinic or wherever. These are extraordinary times.

If Singaporean can unite and start to change the course of action in our favour, it proves that PAP has lost its power and can no longer managed this country. In the the next election, we will have more confident to overthrow pap and give alternative party the power without any fear of threat from the existing ruling party. When Singaporean have matured and became more united, Singapore foundations will become strong without pap bullshits. With the presence of pap, Singaporean cannot prove loyalty to the country. Without our useless pap, we will emerge stronger.

Dear Scroobal

I believe you have a point. I would like to add though that broadly we need to tighten the foreign labor on two fronts. Firstly the skilled, semi skilled and the unskilled. We need to force the min salary requirements for the skilled up as a condition for their employment pass. For the semi skilled I would suggest a tightening of the ratios and for the unskilled we should well lower the min wage requirements so that we have to pay them less. There are just some jobs singaporeans will not do.

Agree.

There must be focus .We need to take the effort to bring people into sectors that are facing actual shortage in skills.

Remember 10 years ago, when it dawned on Singaporeans that ICA was not checking overseas qualifications and forgery was rife. The idiot Yong Pung How also allowed a PRC lady to not be jailed because she was contributing to the economy.

I am sure these guys are not keeping an eye as they should.

The fastest and most effective way to tell them is to not vote for some of them.
When they ask why, tell them that they need to put the locally born citizens first, not foreigners, permanent residents, foreign born citizens, companies and businesses.
The rest will soon realize that the peoples' vote counts.
Isn't making sure that the poorest citizen lives a decent life the ultimate objective of government? And not how much money the country has for future generations?

Sorry, I do not agree with your opinion at all. If you try to find out why Singaporeans will not do these jobs, you will invariably find that these jobs pay too little while the work is too labour intensive or demeaning. If you want someone to clean your shit for you, then you jolly well pay that guy fairly. If your solution is to bring in cheaper foreign labour to do the work then what makes you think that your job might not one day be given to a cheaper foreign worker as well?

Quick fix solutions are not the answer. There is a need to delve deeper into the underlying issues. For MNCs, sure, they can move to wherever overall costs (labour is just a component of it) are cheaper, in fact, they sometimes have more bargaining power than a small country. But the important question is do you want your country to be run along business considerations only?

Patronage should only be given to Malays as they are the indigenous population. The rest are all intruders.

If we can't make the PAP more sensitive to the needs of Singaporeans, we can do this ourselves.

If Gan Kim Yong does not know the feelings of Singaporeans, about time that he is made aware of it.

I bet with u my last dollar that the German created jobs for Sporns by making SPGs willing to spend more! Talking about value added, this is it! *hee*hee*
