Official San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Construction Time-Lapse

Source: The Official EarthCam Channel

Drivers started crossing the brand new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge around 10 PM Monday night (September 2, 2013) and this morning we got this adorable video from EarthCam providing a time-lapse video of the 59-month project.

According to Earth Cam, The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) relied on 12 EarthCam construction cameras to document progress for the $6.4 billion bridge. So, in 2008, EarthCam installed a combination of live streaming video cameras and high definition time-lapse systems, documenting the progress from 42 preset angles.

The cameras were in place for almost 6 years of progress–and now the footage has been boiled down into this 4 minute movie.

In this Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 photo taken in a long exposure and provided by the Bay Area Toll Authority, police vehicles open the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge to traffic, in San Francisco. At the modest inaugural ceremony, the new, self-anchored suspension bridge with its single white tower was praised as a dramatic safety upgrade over its predecessor and a beautiful example of public art. Cars cross the new Bay Bridge after it opened for the morning commute in Oakland, Calif., Tuesday, Sept. 3, 3013. There were no fireworks and little fanfare, but the gleaming white and newly built $6.4-billion eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge has carried its first cars across the water. Part old and part new, part permanent and part temporary, the hybridized bridge reopened late Monday night after a five-day closure and more than a decade of construction and delays.
