How many % havs your basic pay moved over the past years? For me, from 4 hrs ago till now only 40% due o a promotion. What should be the norm?

Around 5%. How to increase to keep with inflation. I have friends who work abroad and seemed to be getting better market value in term of raises over the years. One chap doubled his basic due to being headhuntered and he keep switching for better offers. 4 year double his basic damn shiok. Singapore have such prospect or not?

For the last 8 years before I retired it was fixed because it had reached the max for my pay scale.

Max of pay scale. Must be good money. Care to share more info

Nope not really once you have reached your pay scale there is no more motivation to work. Because of my age group I know that promotion is out of the question they would rather have younger chaps climbing up even thou they know not as much. Their excuse is always oh they don't need to know the work. Their job is to manage hence you can see for yourselves how good and smooth the transport system is in Singapore. Gone were the days where people were promoted because they know the job rather than now a days where one is promoted because he belongs to the same mosque or church, assist his manager is moving house or go fishing on weekends with the boss.
